Thessaloniki Gnostic Group

The Thessaloniki Gnostic group is the newest in Greece, having emerged out of enthusiasm generated by the Athens centre. With a scenic coastal setting in northern Greece, Thessaloniki is the countries second largest city – a beautiful location steeped in history and decorated with many monuments of the Roman and Byzantine era, providing an ideal backdrop for spiritual study.

The group was formed after Ioannis, a teacher from Athens, gave a free public lecture in Thessaloniki in May 2006. This sparked a lot of interest, and he was encouraged to return the summer of the same year.

Following this, Ioannis ran some courses in Thessaloniki, with the help of a team of trainee teachers from the Athens center, at a conference room in center of the city. After that, a trainee teacher moved to Thessaloniki and coordinated weekly meetings with 7-8 keen students. These meetings were held in their homes, where they discussed and practiced the Gnostic teachings and arranged other activities, such as awareness walks in the countryside.

However, it became obvious a permanent, properly equipped, meeting place was necessary, so that more people could learn about Gnosis and attend courses. With this is mind, and with lots of encouragement from Ioannis, the Thessaloniki group has now began searching for a suitable location near the center of town, to establish a permanent centre.
