I've got a strange question here, Everytime I try to fully relax with my eyes closed for astral projection, but as soon as everything starts to feel numb, my eyes want to go open, letting light in and ruining it.I am sensitive to light, so I was thinking about getting some eyemasks for sleeping... Would these things be a good idea, or do they only ruin my chances of projecting? (blocking the third eye?) |

Improving mental concentration is also another way to also fix this problem because its possible for it to go away (like an itch during a practice).
Regarding the third eye, personally I don't think an eye mask would bother it.
Hope this helps Laura,

When we practice for AP,there's always many reasons why we can't do it or we have difficulties to do so...
For you, it's your eyes and for me, was my ears (very sensitive to every noises...). So I investigate few things like using "ear plug", my mp3 with a mantra,... I was feeling more secure, but I realised there was something deeper... I was feeling insufficient just with my own person... I was also afraid (even if I didn't want to see it...)... It allows me to know a bit more on myself.
So pay attention to every toughts before and during the practice. When you are not in peace, come back to
your concentration (I like come back to my heart beat) and just let those toughts going away, like the wind...
A good way to know if it's good for you, it's to investigate it! Maybe it's gonna be easier to start with and someday, you'll feel something different and understand why it was like this...
Have a good investigation,
Pilha

Regarding Gerry's suggestion about the eyes not being fully relaxed, there are a number of websites that offer free tips on how to massage one's face, including the eyes. This has been an area that I have had problems with and I find that taking a few minutes to do this before doing my practice helps to relieve muscle tension in the face.
Best of luck!

I've tried earplugs and found that they were distracting, as well. If this is a major problem for you, you may want to try a 'white noise' machine. I got one a few months ago and it works well at blocking out external noises. I can set it to turn off after a certain amount of time. Of course, concentration is the key, as you stated; unfortunately the white noise machine does not help with that ;)

Regarding noises, sometimes I just try to pick up a good time for practice, usually noise-makers sooner or later get tired, you know...but, yes, unfortunately it is not always an option, can be all sorts of a noises around...
Also it is quite interesting, I find that sometimes when it is too much noise, it is sort of easier to concentrate.
Good luck to have or make a quiet place, so you can rest well and have a good practices, Pilha and Gabrielle!
