Okay signed up for the january? classes and have been practicing awareness whenever I remember to, I have also been trying to keep my mind from wandering from subject to subject as I lay in bed, That is by far the hardest thing I have tried to control. I start off doing good, then my mind will stray for just a fraction of a second and BAM!!! I find my mind wondering about what color of shirt I am going to where tomarrow. Anybody got any tips, or is it just practice makes perfect? |

The mind certainly likes to do it's own thing. When it comes down to it does come down to training it to stay focussed on one item.
When you go to bed next try to keep your mind on your heartbeat. Just continue to listen to your heartbeat as you drift off to sleep. If you get distracted to get upset about it just go back to listening/feeling your heartbeat. By being concentrated and relaxed like this you may find you astral project too.
You can practice this exercise during the day too if you have 10 or so minutes spare.
The more you practice awareness the easier it will be to concentrate at night as your mind will not be as scattered.
Hope that helped.

Another thing that helps is to keep your mind focused on the tasks you do throughout the day. For example, if you are eating a meal, try to focus on that activity only. Become aware of the movements of your hand, how the food tastes, etc...instead of multi-tasking or thinking about something else while you eat. In doing so, you'll be training your mind to stay focused on one thing. You could just pick a few activities each day to do this with to start training your mind to be concentrated and you should start to see improvement when you go to do your astral practices.
Concentration is an area that takes time to develop, you have to train your mind. I had great difficultly concentrated before taking the course. In the course, there are a lot of great exercises that help with developing concentration and having practiced them, I've seen great improvement in this area. It is also key to a lot of the other practices taught here, so it is not only something that can be improved, but it is definitely worthwhile. The fact that you are starting now will really prepare you for the course.
Good luck!
