Hey there. I'm trying to follow the the current astral travel course with the book since the lectures are unavailable. (Is anyone else doing this? Is this thread in the right place??)Anyway, I cracked a rib snowboarding last week. Do you guys have any insight on physical injury and if this will hinder my ability to get into the astral? Before the injury I was getting pretty close to splitting (I think), and also had my first lucid dream. I have been remembering my dreams pretty well and trying to record them but have have gotten no closer to a split since the injury. Unfortunately this is gonna take a while to heal, and I feel like my progress has suddenly come to a halt. Will pain meds also hinder me? I have been staying away from medication because I feel like it will make me less sharp. Got Ideas? Thanks for the info! |

Sorry to hear about your injury. Having success with astral projection depends on how much concentration and awareness you are able to maintain. If you are having a lot of pain you probably are not able to concentrate as well.
You don't want to push yourself too hard because you want your body to heal. Just try your best with your concentration and astral practices.
I think certain kinds pain medications could have an effect on you ability to astral project. Strong pain medication effects can interfere with concentration and that could hinder astral practices. You should do what is best for you and your healing.
Since you are still in the astral course you can access the astral course forums. On those forums teachers can answer any questions you may have. You can also talk and share experiences with other students that are taking the course with the book. To access the astral travel course forum, login and click on the forums link in the course areas section.
Hope this helps.
Take care,

I've often been in a lot of pain from previous accidents myself. I find that it is best not to try to force the exercises if you are not up to par. It's best to save your strength and focus on getting better so that you will have more success with the AP exercises. When we are sick or physically in pain, it may be difficult to concentrate and frustration can occur if we don't get any results, so it's best to just focus on healing the body at this moment.
Keep up with your Dream Log!

if you focus on getting better, healing, like you would focus on astrial projection, you will heal faster.

From my experiences, it has been difficult to focus on astral projection if my physical body is weak and in pain. Therefore, as I mentioned above, I find it is best to focus on healing the body so that I can even begin to attempt to do any AP exercises.
It is important to understand that everyone can go through different levels of pain, whether from illness due to a cold or a specific injury from sports or MVA's (motor vehicle accidents). Tolerance of pain may differ from one person to the other. In addition, a full recovery can certainly vary with different individuals. Repercussions of such injuries may (but not necessarily) also lead to musculoskeletal diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Scleroderma, etc. Of course, there are other medical explanations to why these diseases can occur but Fibromyalgia for example, is a condition characterized by body aches, pain, sleep problems, extreme fatigue, and anxiety, in combination with tenderness of specific areas (muscles and tender points) on the body. The cause of this disorder is unknown. Most know the syndrome involves muscle pain and tender points. It is much more complex however.
Fibromyalgia can be difficult to treat, it is a chronic problem that can come and go for years. Most patients report feeling some pain all the time, and many describe it as "exhausting." The pain can vary, depending on the time of day, weather changes, physical activity, and the presence of stressful situations. There are no medications approved by the FDA for treating fibromyalgia, although a few such drugs are in development. Living with Fibromyalgia and other diseases characterized by muscle pains and chronic fatigue can add extra difficulties and challenges to Astral Projection because feeling pain can be enough to stop the AP exercise. These diseases just don't go away and unfortunately, there are people stuck with this for life. Therefore, even if one was to focus on getting better and healing to the same extent of focusing on astral projecting, I do not know how that would apply to a faster recovery. I can surely attest that this pain is "not in their heads". Pain is immeasurable with every individual, and we cannot generalize each individual's pain. We are not in their bodies. Some patients are so disabled that they experience no benefits over time and some feel even worse even after many attempts and different programs. So, for some people, pain may be present all their lives. This does not mean that because they are not able to heal or treat this disease, that they should not attempt Astral Projection. In fact, there can be some great benefits to visiting the Astral and one can ask to be taken to sacred temples for healing, according to one's preference.
What is important is to train the body and the mind to do the AP exercises gradually after an illness or injury. This can be very challenging with people that have these diseases but a proper change in lifestyle to adapt to their circumstances and level of endurance needs to be implemented. Rest of the physical body is vital to AP. If we do not have enough physical strength to do the exercises, then we should not force the body because this can exacerbate the pain and can lead to negative feelings about the AP exercises. Everyone is different, and each individual must adhere to his or her own discipline and level of tolerance to pain. It is hard to apply the concentration and relaxation techniques needed for AP if one is physically exhausted and in pain. I have done short exercises in the beginning and gradually increased them to the capacity of my pain comfort level. I find that practice, patience, persistence and a positive attitude can help in overcoming such obstacles.
Regards.
