Hi, all.I'm a Christian, but I still wish to AP. What are your thoughts on that?I'm not sure of the lot of you are religious or not, but I am, and it seems that a lot of this Astral Projection is based around Divine Mothers and Fathers, Negative Entities, and Spell-Like Sayings.I want to know what your thoughts are on the subject. Please write,Mike. |

Let me first comment and say that a religion is simply a set of beliefs that people follow. My thought is that anyone who practices OBEs or takes the time to read about them must be religious; they are spending time learning and reading about things. If they weren't religious, then they simply wouldn't care about any of this.
As a whole, the idea of astral projection defies no religion. It is found throughout all religions, although it is not in a direct way most of the times.
As for Christianity, I personally believe that people take it to literally. I think that the idea of heaven and hell, etc. are used as symbols to represent a bigger idea. If you literally believe everything Christianity has to offer, then I don't believe you can truly believe in astral projection or ideas that stem off of astral projection. For instance, one thing that you can do with astral projection is visit past lives. According to Christianity, when we die, we go to heaven or we go to hell.... for eternity. Now we have run into a problem. Surely we couldn't have had a past life because we if we did, then we wouldn't be here now.... we would be in heaven or hell.
Another question I like to ask Christians is this:
If i don't believe in christianity will i go to hell? Most of the time the response is "yes". Well what about all of those people before the time of Christ? Were all of those people doomed to suffer an eternity in hell?
At one point in history, people were burned at the stake for believing and practicing these kinds of things. They called it "works of the devil". Many innocent people (witches, as some may call them) died due to the ignorance and stubborness of people and their religion. People take the ideas of the devil and hell too literally. People jump to conclusions and make wrong assumptions. The result is the death of many innocent people.
My main point is that you can belive in both OBEs and Christianity, depending how you look at both. If you literally believe everything word for word from any religion, then you certainly will run into some problems and contradictions along the way while researching and practicing OBE related stuff.
I personally think that people should make and follow their own religion that they discover on their own. You must always keep an open mind and be willing to break and bend from your beliefs. I assure you that you will run into much more phenomena that our world has to offer that christianity might stereotype as "evil". Astral projection is just the surface. There is much more out there that will shatter your perception of the world, reality, and everything that you might think you know about it.
By the way, no hard feelings. Just understand that it is important to keep an open mind. Christianity will shun, oppose, and go against most of the stuff you will find about astral and related topics and therefore it will be difficult to truly believe in both with the wrong outlook.

just to add that there is a big difference between belief and faith and this is the difference between religion (belief) and gnosis (knowledge-faith): Belief relates to dogmatism, that is, we are Christians, Muslims, Buddists etc and we belief intellectually everything our religions, our society and family says to be the truth.
Faith relates to the gnosis of the objective truth, that is, instead of just believing in dogmas, we can use our ability to experience and find out the truths and misinterpretations of our religion.
Astral projection is one of the practices we use in order to verify truths, to learn and get teachings in order to progress spiritually, to get self knowledge etc

"Surely we couldn't have had a past life because we if we did, then we wouldn't be here now.... we would be in heaven or hell."
Have you thought that maybe everytime a baby is born, a soul is created by GOD?? So this answer can easily answer your question.
My point is, no matter what questions you ask, there will always be somebody who will easily can answer to your questions even if the answers won't be logical still most people will accept because they dont know much about the afterlife. So since people dont know much about the afterlife, any answer can easily be accepted depending on the person.
"If I don't believe in christianity will i go to hell? Most of the time the response is "yes". Well what about all of those people before the time of Christ? Were all of those people doomed to suffer an eternity in hell?"
If I was a religious Christian I would have answer:
This is why as most Christians have said, God send Jesus to earth to save humanity from sins. God knew that people before Jesus or those who haven't heard of him, couldn't never know the truth therefore God because he is merciful decided to take away those sins through Jesus and save them. Isn't that the whole point of Christianity, the most central part? Salvation. The cross, Jesus, salvation from sins. That is what Christianity is all about. Anyone who believes in God through Jesus and accept his salvation should not worry about going to Hell whether you are on Earth or afterlife. Like Jesus have said, its never too late.
If you have questions about Christianity then you should ask a priest. Like you said, just understand that it is important to keep an open mind and maybe you should ask a priest.
I am not religious but since I am a beginner in gnosticism, I will still hold on beliefs on Christianity in case I discover that astral dimension or spiritual guides could be fake. I always keep an open mind.

yes we do go to the astral every time we sleep but God took away the ability for us to see what goes on conciously so that we would live our lives in this current dimension without influences from the other side.
It is in the bible that it is not for us to experience. I am reading the bible at the moment and havent got that far yet but there are people that do not agree with it, and some that do agree with it.
I will find out where it says in the bible and let you know so that you can see for yourself if you wish, as I would like to see it too. I will ask my source tonight and let you know monday.
i still practise though :-\

"we do go to the astral every time we sleep but God took away the ability for us to see what goes on conciously so that we would live our lives in this current dimension without influences from the other side. "
This could certaintly be a plausible scenario. It could certaintly be a direct influence from the other dimensions trying to tell us how to live our life and what to do and what not to do, etc.
In fact, I just got off from another topic forum when a lady asked a very good question that if orgasm is bad for spiritual growth then how can people be able to procreate to make a baby. We need a sperm and an egg to make a baby.
And then someone answered to this lady:
"In modern gnosis, we ask our divine mother to make one spermatozoa escape and fertilize the ovum. When karma allows this, the woman gets pregnant."
Now clearly you can already see a direct relationship between interference between 5th dimension and 3rd dimension by telling us that we need our divine mother and karma to allow us to make a baby. Now I always thought that we have free will and we decide whether we are ready to have a baby or not. Don't you think so?

I don't think our religion can be an obstacle to astral project. This is a natural process, as been said we separate from the physical every night as we fall asleep but most of the times unconsciously. With the techniques of astral projection we move our attention to the separational process an become aware of it, we get to know how sleep works.
Take care.

"Seems I opened up a bigger can of worms than I thought."
No you didn't open a bigger can of worms. You asked fair questions and wanted to learn more. It's some people like dreamwa1ker who sort of came at you with those ridiculous questions which anyone could have easily answer whether is logical or not.
However Pavlin was fair and he answer your question that regardless of your religion that you could astral project.
Anyway, I am curious as to how the gnostics view God. Is it the same God that we know in Bible? After all who created all these dimensions, souls, the universe? Even those spiritual beigns.
