I keep trying to research gnosticism and everytime i do the name Aleister Crowley appears. I understand he was the leader of the satanist movement and alot of online articals are calling his way of life, gnostic. Although other articles talk about how christian gnosticism is close to catholissism with only a few diffrences. Im pretty confused and need some help understanding. |

I can't talk from the name of all Gnostic organizations but Gnosticweb has nothing to do with Aliester Crowley, or with his teachings.

This page gives some additional information on Gnosticism:

Also, the Gnostic Wisdom course gives a great understanding of the practical aspects of Gnosticism.

So Aleister Crowley could have very well been a gnostic. White and black magicians are both technically gnostics. A shrewd businessman who applies his practical knowledge of the business world could be considered gnostic in his approach.

From an academic viewpoint, the word gnosis means knowledge, and in that sense you can say that anyone using acquired knowledge from experience is a Gnostic. But, and this is a big but, there is something more to the word gnosis, it is not any kind of knowledge, it is knowledge of God, of the universe, of divine things. So I don?t think you can say that a businessman has a Gnostic approach just because he uses things he has learned by experience. That would be to ?devalue? the word gnosis, render it more or less useless, both for scholars in religious studies and the public.

Gnosis means inner knowlege, not knowledge of business or anything else.
Knowledge of ourselves.
Then our actions can come from us, then they can make a difference... when we know ourselves.
It is material of Self-Discovery course.

What people do not fully understand, they easily ascribe it as things of "Satan" or "black magic".
Aleister Crowley was a celebrated magician of his time and founded one Secret Society. Like any other magicians, he gained access to secret knowledge and workings of the universe. How he and his followers made use of that knowledge, i do not know anymore. All i know is Magic is there in the beginning of the Universe. Gnosis is there in the beginnning of the Universe. It has many names. but how one uses this knowledge is what renders it good or bad. Not magic or gnosis itself.
just my thoughts on the subject.

One thing may appear to three people. One won't see it because he is asleep.Another will see it dark because he wears sunglasses. The third one will see it objectively because nothing interferes between his eyes and the thing.
The thing appeared to all three of them. But who has Gnosis? Who knows how this thing really looks like?
The phylosophy of Crowley and other dark writers looks similar to gnosticism. This is because the principals and the path are the same but totally reversed. It is like a reflection in the mirror. Same but opposite, leading to opposite directions.

If you go along with Gnosis, I think, you will see this difference much more clearer. (at least that's what I see and feel)
All the best!
