Montreal Gnostic Centre - Latest Happenings

Hi Everyone,
Summer is passing and it's time for an update from the hotbed of summer activity which is the City of Montreal.
Amongst the constant festivals, street fairs and flashy attractions the Montreal Centre has been busy doing their best to spread the word.
Here's what we've been up to!

Garage Sale

Two weeks past we held one of our Summer Garage Sales in the alley behind the centre.
Although we didn't get any pictures taken, it was a great success. Many Thanks to the
good group of students who came out to help lug our materials around and man the bargaining tables
as the elderly and the scrupulous swarmed our way for a bargain.
We raised a record breaking amount! Now we need more stuff to sell.

Street Fair

The street close down here on a periodic basis in the summer time so people can wander to and fro and buy all the material
goods they need. We weren't selling any goods, and this worked to our advantage. "You're courses are free?"
They asked. This made us stand out from the crowd and those few who were courageous and curious enough to come find out
more about free spiritual knowledge, were quite interested indeed. We hope this will help fill the room as the next course
round starts here in late July.

Here's some pics from the street..Montreal Street Fair

Mont-Royal Avenue starts to fill as the day begins.

Street Painting

Along with the street fair which hit on the front door of the Montreal Gnostic Centre, so did another opportunity to let us spread the word in a more unique manner.  Starting in March the MGAC (Montreal Gnostic Art Collective..Nicole Grinstead, Martin Morin, Melanie Laws and Andrew Sepic) applied to do a 12 X 20 ft. street painting on Mont-Royal Ave to go along with the fair in June.

The theme for the street artists was given as "Why Not the Sky?"  A celebration of Galileo's 400th Anniversary and the official year of Astronomy.  Theme's could diverge into anything from the Zodiac, to planetary alignment's, 2012 or the Hubble Space telescope.  Obviously we picked Astral Projection!

Our written proposal, skectches and plan of action was accepted in late April, and when the street fair hit last weekend, we took this unique opportunity to let alot of people know that OBE's are something real and available to everyone.

Synopsis of the Drawing - A man lies in bed within the skyline of Montreal.  His Astral double breaks free and flies into the night sky above the city, where he is encircled by the 7 planets bearing their ancient symbols.

We had 4 hours to do our painting 10pm - 2am.  Trying to be brief here are the photo's...

First we started by griding out the space to place the composition properly...

Nicole and Sylvain begin mixing paints..

Melanie starts work on the city skyline and the bed from which our projector takes flight...

Martin works on the planet Saturn...

A midnight conference on how to best take our next step...

Nicole works on filling in the main sphere shape...

Melanie's still filled with enjoyment and energy at 1am..

Nicole works to quicken the planets drying time, so their symbols can be placed on them...

Melanie.   Not afraid of getting her hands dirty..

Andrew get a hamstring workout..

Nicole begins working of the text we placed at the base of the painting.  The famous words inscribed on the Temple at Delphi

"Know thy self, and ye shall know the universe." (and the gods)

The planet symbols have been placed.. The projector lies on his bed at the base of the drawing(in perspective) and

the montreal city skyline stretches to either side..

Final touches!  Times running short at around 1:45am..

The Chakra's and the silver cord are added to the Astral body..

And finally, the finished product..

During this great challenge,  many people approached us and wished to talk of the significance of the painting. The esoteric nature drew their curiosity and many got info that they had never received before.  Three days later people were still able to see the drawing prominently as they walked the street.

We had a really fun time!  and got to organize and work as a group under strange conditions, allowing us to work on ourselves in new circumstances.  Aside from the great experience, the artist's were paid by the city $150 for their public works. So we raised 150 for the Montreal Centre as an added bonus! We can't wait to do it again next year!

All the best from Montreal.
