Music Night at the Toronto Centre

Early this October we put on a piano recital fundraiser at the Toronto Centre for students of the courses. It was a great evening for friends to listen to good music and enjoy a homemade dessert [many thanks to Dara and Jenny for the apple cake].

The whole event was made possible by the generous donation of a kind lady in Toronto who was moving and did not wish to take her 1920s Heintzman piano with her. Having found out about this through Craigslist, we quickly went to try it out, and it was not long before we moved it to the Centre.

A good time was had by everyone who came out, although, as usually happens when I organize these music events, we barely raised enough money to cover our costs!

I chose to play some of the pieces which are most meaningful to me. This included Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" and a piece which I wrote on Shakespeare's famous "To be or not to be" from Hamlet.

Here are some images to illustrate the night...

Last-minute preparation, trying to cram the final notes into my memory...

Stas was the camera man for the night, and did a great job. Take at look at the video compiled from the evening, which can be found here: http://www.myspace.com/gnosticmovement_toronto ...

Jordan was our guest speaker for the night, and somehow he seems to glow when he speaks...

A quick hello...

What a struggle to stay aware!

A handsome turnout

Here's the profile view. We opened up the upright piano to make it sound as big as a grand piano; it was really nice hearing those hammers hitting the strings right in front of you, sounding like chimes of crystal bells.

Stay tuned for the next one! I was voted down on my choice for a Hallowe'en recital, but there will definitely be more music to come... Thanks to everyone from the Centre for helping out with this. Also, I want to thank Jon, Carolyn, and Jim B for all the wonderful music you have been putting together, it's very special and uplifting.

Hey Noah,

It was a great music night - I was very pleasantly surprised with your piano skills, and I especially enjoyed listening to the piece you composed - To be or not to be - something in the way you presented and played it really resonated with me, and I am now inspired to re-read that soliloquy in a fresh way.

Thanks for the great night - looking forward to that Christmas recital, or perhaps a double performance with Jordan (a Mozart night?) ;-)

Wow, amazing, nice one
