Dinner with the "Peaceful Warrior"
Who is a Peaceful Warrior?
We recently held a special 'Dinner & Movie' night at the San Francisco Bay Area Gnostic Center to raise funds towards international projects & developments for The Gnostic Movement. It was a night filled with laughter and insights as we ate and then watched the highly anticipated "Peaceful Warrior".
The movie was originally a novel entitled "The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman. Ironically the story takes place here in our very own backyard, Berkeley, California. The story was said to be based on true events.
The original plan was to eat midway through the movie, but with the food infront of us and it's beautiful warm aromas hitting our empty stomachs, we decided it would better to eat before the movie...
I'll tell you a little bit about the movie as we go along...
The story starts off, a young man who 'has it all' a wealthy, straight A, gymnastic student who has trouble sleeping due to strange dreams of failure and drama that predicts his future...
On one of his sleepless nights he jogs up to a near by gas station and recognizes the old service man as a man who has been appearing in his dreams...
As he leaves the gas station he notices the man sitting down outside he looks away for a moment and when he looks back the old service man is on the roof! How did he do that???
Here is a shot of the group resting patiently for the movie.
As you can see we did not manage to get the right setting on the camera.
So our young warrior heads back to the station the next night to find out how this old service man is able to hop on to the roof. The young full does not have a 'clue' about what he is getting himself into.
The boy finds out that he has been sleeping his hole life, as gracefully pointed out by his new coach "Socrates". Who not only trains him in gymnastics, but trains him in everything...
Here is my favourite quote from the movie: "You know what the difference is between you and me, Dan? You practice gymnastics and I practice everything."
Here is another group shot of us, this one after the intermission. We discussed the different concepts that the movie dealt with, particularly with being aware in the present moment. Which was the was the way of the peaceful warrior.
Dan moves on to learn how to be in the present moment and trains to actually live life fully and enjoy it.
Socrates trains Dan in the astral (dreams) and in the physical, on how to be a peaceful warrior.
The story really reminded me of the "The Flight of the Feathered Serpent" book. Where a man frustrated with life meets a spiritual teacher, to help him understand, that not knowing about life is the first step to realizing what life truly is and that all of us are asleep and we need to wake up!
Both stories have interesting similarities, the teachers unbound happiness that is always present with eyes that convey depth and truth. Both students become frustrated with the teachers lessons, but afterward both are deeply thankful for the time and effort that was spent, to help them wake up to the present moment.
Here is the otherside of the room, looks really comfortable...
I was the host for the night ; ) Jordan pose.
Thanks to everyone who were able to attend. I hope you all enjoyed the show and were able to take something with it...something practical at least!
Until next time...

Looking good Ruben, but I
Looking good Ruben, but I don't quite see how that's a 'Jordan pose' - looks more like a classic 'Ruben pose' to me :-)

Thanks Ruben!
Such a nice blog. Looks like a fantastic event!
I really liked that book and perhaps will finally see the movie.
PS Not to start an argument...but it looks like a "Jordan pose" to me...
Kind wishes,

Thanks for this blog on
Thanks for this blog on your activity...
I have seen this movie last year in a group here in Montreal who presents regularly spiritual movies.
It's a very good movie.
And the other book of Dan Milman (the sequel of "The Peaceful Warrior": "The Return of Socrate") is also interesting.
A spiritual movie that I like a lot also is: "The Celestine Prophecy" (also from the book of the same name), we can find it in video club.
In one scene of this film, we see a circle of beings of light, in a superior dimension, who surrounds some people in the physical dimension (it's a beautifull special effect made by the technology... in movie, to show what real life is like).
Thanks for the blog Ruben. I
Thanks for the blog Ruben.
I have heard nothing but good things from people about this film. I think I will have to check it out too.

Yesterday, I have written:
Yesterday, I have written: ... (the sequel of "The Peaceful Warrior": "The Return of Socrate") is also interesting.
The exact title is: "The Journeys of Socrate".
This book is the story of the life of Socrate, the wise mentor of Dan Millman. What this man lived, to become what he became.
It's the spiritual life of Socrate, before his meeting with Dan. His life in Russia, and in other places, his story with his spiritual master, etc...
Maybe, they will make a film of that excellent book also one day.
But what would be more interesting for us, all of us who love Gnosis, it would be a movie on the spiritual life of Belzebuub !
Sincerly,
Julie
Great blog

Hello again !
I have just finished a meditation, and I have received an idea of a movie... in link with my precedent message here.
I don't know if it's a vision that comes from my ego or from my essence ?
I share with all of you this idea... Maybe you can express if you think that it would be a good or a bad idea ???
But, the real answer need to come from the master Belzebuub himself !
Here is the idea: I have a spiritual friend who is a young scripwritter (in his dreams, he says that somes beings show him how to make spiritual movies and how to present them in enterview...), I wonder if it would be a good idea to ask him if he would be interested, one day, to write a movie of two hours on the two lifes of Belzebuub.
The first hour of the movie could be the Chapter 17 of the book of Samael: "THE REVOLUTION OF BEL" (that describes the past life of Belzebuub), and the secound hour could be the Story life of the present life of Belzebuub, described on his web site (all his path... until the end of the Secound Mountain of the Initiation, and the creation of our spiritual School "GNOSTICWEB": www.belzebuub.com/Belzebuub-Story).
It's sure, that if Belzebuub don't like this idea of project, I won't propose it to my friend... and I can say that the only way that this project could be interesting for me would be with these 2 conditions:
1- The complete script would be read by the master Belzebuub, and if he wanted to change someting... it would be his complete right to do it.
2- When the movie would be completed, the master could see it first, and if he wanted to add, to suppress or to change anything, he could say it to the team of the movie, and, it would be written in the contract of this team, that the final version must be in complete accordance to the idea of the movie of Belzebuub.
This movie could be realised with a small budget, with different people who would work on it voluntarily (ex: some spiritual students in the field of cinema).
I think that a movie like this could be very attractive for new people in the school... The movie could be free, on a special website just for that, and with two links on the page: the two websites (the one of Belzebuub, and the one of GNOSTICWEB).
You can give your opinions in link with that if you want...
Julie
P.S.
A movie like this... could be a fantastic demonstration of how a human being can completely transform himself, can transform his life, with the help of other spiritual beings, and how he can also help a lot of other beings after... after having been helped, and after having used the spiritual keys that he has received !
After reading your blog ;I
After reading your blog ;I went online and watched the movie ..
Wonderful movie ---Does anyony else know of any good movies like this ?
Peace and Love
Hi everyone, I saw this
Hi everyone,
I saw this movie last year and loved it too - really intriguing and a great message.
After watching the movie, I decided to google information on the author and came up with an interview he had done regarding the movie. The author mentioned that the events were based on a true story, but that the character of Socrate was actually fictional, and used to benefit the story line, rather than based on actual facts. This disappointed me a little when I read it, but I still found the movie to be very thought provoking.

Vicki
