Hi Worldbridger,

I'm not sure if the answer is as "black or white" as a "yes" or "no" answer could provide :-)

I have heard it's better not to wear black, as it can attract some negative forces. The extent to which this is true, I'm not completely sure.

I sometimes wear black and I haven't really noticed an effect. But it's not a huge part of my wardrobe.

Best,

Mike

Black is obviously a negative colour, but I don't see how wearing it could be negative.

I have once read that colors have energy about them that could effect us. The colors were about meditating on a colors, so we are speaking about the energy that is produced by our mind.

Psychologically, colors can sooth or agitate us. For example it is well know that most businesses have white colors on walls, this makes us more creative and productive as we have the feeling that we need to fill this space with something. Green is known to relax us. Blue is very comforting color I found after painting bedroom walls with it. Bright yellow brings about happiness, at least in me. Pink is color of love, if you wish to express your love to someone, send them a spiritual ball of light filled with pink-rosy-golden color while you are meditating on them. But these are colors that are being perceived by our senses, like eyes and processed through our brain.

So what are you asking is do colors represent certain energies that have effect on us? And can we perceive these energies with other senses then our eyes and through our brain recognition?

I have seen long ago program about using other senses to replace ones sense that was lost, like balance when person suffered ear injury, or when someone lost eye site. At first they were experimenting on skin, by creating impulses, physical and later electrical, which the person have learn to associate with certain direction - in case of loss of balance. This person have learn to balance with this device through a new sense which was touch when doctors said that she would never be able to walk or ride bicycle, well she did. Or blind man would not be able to recognize objects, well he did. He can walk between lines, he can identify simple objects, pick a ball and toss it into a basket 10 feet away. All with help of a camera and electrical impulses sensor that he puts on his tongue. It is about recognizing the same old world around us with a new sense.

So what this proves is that we are perceiving the world around us with all of our senses, we just did not put importance on some of them like we did on our sight. Meditation can change that. When you meditate on light, then our receptiveness of light becomes heighten, more aware.

So can black color of our clothing effect us? Probably it does, but since we are surrounded by other colors in our environment, they are likely more prevailing energy then our clothing, like The blue sky, the green color of the nature, the golden-yellow sun. Then the energies of our and other's spirit. In other words, clothing color have very small influence then if you were to spend 8 hours a day in darkened environment. Light is life and we will always be attracted to it.

Wishing you all a great spiritual morning.

Hi Worldbridger,

Different colors certainly affect psyche in a different ways. Nowadays it is used in a variety of fields for a variety of purposes.

This is something to investigate on our own, I think...together with resultive and continuous practices of self-observation, retrospection, etc., the effect of colors we wear, can be seen.

Presently, usually I prefer to wear light colors personally. I can feel the difference in the way people treat me and look at me if I wear black.

If someone believes strongly that wearing black is a bad thing and feels very uncomfortable to do so, looks down at people wearing black, etc., then I think, it can be a part of a fanatical attitude towards spirituality, some can have it during introduction stage of learning Gnosis.

Best wishes,

Hello Everyone,

I've wondered about this myself as I've heard that purple can be a protective colour so I wonder what black would be for.

When I was young I use to dress in black jeans and t-shirts but it doesn't feel right to wear clothes like that anymore, I tend to like blue coloured clothing these days.

Everything has a meaning and everything has a vibration so we know that vibrations can be good or bad for us, perhaps it affects in someway.

Hi,

As an artist I think I can "feel" colors a bit different than alot of other people, I try to appreciate every color and use it as best I can.
Black is every color mixed together. It has a very chaotic feel to me, everything dark and happening at once. I use it during meditation to empty my mind. There's nothing wrong or right about any color unless you are trying to convey some type of message or feeling in an artwork.

I think it's interesting that every color spectrum of anything mixed together yeilds black, but light is the only thing that turns white when the spectrum is mixed.

Hey all,

Actually I believe that white is the combination of all the colours put together. Black is the absence of any colour, that's why light bulbs, the centre of a candle, the sun etc look bright, and if you turn of all the lights it tends towards black.

I don't personally think a specific colour is good or bad. As said above it's how our minds perceive it. We see reds oranges and yellows as warm, comforting colours, because they are the colour of fire, the sun etc. Similarly, blue can be seen as cool and soothing, as it is the colour of the ocean on a sunny day etc.

But if we lived on a planet were fire was blue and water was red, the opposite would apply. I think it's more to do with the things we associate certain colours with.

I wear a lot of black. I always have and I probably always will. For clothes it's my favourite colour to wear. I have a fairly positive attitude to life (I think) so if black were intrinsically negative then I doubt this would be the case!

Also, if you live in an area with a lot of intense sunshine then black is the best colour to wear. This is because a lot of light passes through your clothes to your skin. Black absorbs more of this than any other colour, so is beneficial for your health. This is one reason why in Middle Eastern Countries for example, a lot of the womens clothes are black. Women have more sensitive skin than men, so black clothes protect them!

I think attracting positive or negative energy to you is influenced by your outlook and how you are internally. If you feel comfortable in black, and uncomfortable in green say, I reckon you'd attract a lot more negativity by wearing green than black, simply because you'd be in an uncomfortable state of mind.

Cheers!

Correction; White is the combination of all the colours in the spectrum, black is the combination of all colours (I think).

The spectrum refers to the visible spectrum, i.e. the wavelengths of light that the human eye has evolved to be able to see and process. This ranges from approximately 400nm - 750 nm in air.

Every single colour that we can see resides in this area. There are no "colours" (as we know them) outside of it. Any wavelength residing outside of these becomes infra-red at higher wavelenghts (lower energy) which eventually leads to micro then radio waves, or ultra violet at lower wavelenghts (higher energy) which then leads to gamma rays.

As you go further along the spectrum our bodies pick up the presence of others waves differently. I.e. at very low energy/high wavelengths (around 10cm - 10km, not all directly audible without passing through a mechanical device) we don't see colours, we hear sounds. Our eyes evolved to see the visible spectrum, our ears evolved to hear the radio waves in the spectrum.

Also, the "visible spectrum" and "radio/sound waves" are only named this way because we perceive them in this area. For a dog say, the visible spectrum and audio spectrum will be different to ours etc.

So in terms of seeing colour and energy, white is when the entire visible spectrum is emitted at once. This is why when you use a prism to split light into its components (the indoor rainbow in science class) you need to use a source of white light.

We see colours because white light falls on them, and as it is absorbed, one area of the spectrum is not absorbed but is reflected back. This is why plants are green, and if you keep plants underneath a light that emits only green light they will die, as they cannot absorb this frequency of light.

Anything that is black abosrbs radiation all along the visible spectrum. Anything that is white does not absorb any radiation in the visible spectrum and reflects it all.

Any colours that do not appear to be in the spectrum are just composites of 2 or more wavelengths from within it. Also, any colour can be mixed with black (i.e. a paint or substance that absorbs all the wavelengths) which has the effect of diluting it until it appears to be a new colour: white is diluted by black to form grey, brown can be made by using black to dilute either red orange or yellow etc.

There are no colours whose frequency lies outside that of the visible spectrum. Any radiatin of wavelength outside that of the visible spectrum (what you could call a colour that white light does not contain either singly or as a composite) is not visible (hence the name.) It will therefore be UV, IR, MW, Sound etc.
