Hi Moon Walker,
I have tried this right breathing technique once while doing a mantra and I was able to have a better concentration and the practise seemed to flow more smoothly.
According to my knowledge and personal experience you breath in slowly through the nose while you try to move the muscles of your stomach instead of your lungs to inhale the air. Then when you breath in, the abdomen should expand. Breath out through the mouth.

Concentrating on the breathing alone or on the relaxation can take a person consciously into the astral. The level of concentration is the most important thing.

Hi Moon Walker,
From what I understand "the right" type of breathing depends on activity we do.
With astral projection, it may be the best just to make sure that we are relaxed fully, and then calm natural breathing is a good indicator of that.
In order to relax more, it may be helpful to take a few deep and slow inhalations and exalations, but then just let it go naturally. Paying attention to breathing can help to relax too.
If we don't concentrate on breathing during our astral projection practice, then it shouldn't be able to be stronger than OUR CONCENTRATION FORCE and distract us.
Concentrtion is actually something which really makes it easier.
All the best!

I also try breathing like I get lighter with every breath I inhale, and imagine float up a bit more.
Or when I feel heavy, I imagine with every exhale I get heavier and float down bit by bit.
Can try to project like this.
