I have found that when I meditate my body temperature rises quite a lot, sometimes uncomfortably hot I have to stop my practice. My room isnt particularily hot, and before I begin im usualy at a comfortable temperature. Just wondering if anyone else has experianced this and perhaps knows why? Peace, |

I have heard that some monks cant deliberately meditate to change their body temperature. Perhaps you are inadvertently doingthis!
My experience is usually that I get cold so I always have a light blanket next to me just in case.
Best wishes

The same thing can happen with astral practices as well - even though we know the temperature in the room is comfortable, it still feels like our body temperature is rising (or dropping). It's one possible symptom of a split occuring, so it's possible that's what's happening to you... :-) I've experienced the same thing many times but it seems it's never a physical thing. If I can ignore it and just stay with the practice, it stops bothering me and stops being a problem, so see what you can do to stop it interfering with the practice you're doing.

Hi Andrew,
I get this too, particularly today, in fact. I try to ignore it, but it depends how hot it's getting. It seems to be a physical heat, so I'm going to just try turning a fan on me. If it gets to be more of a problem, I will ask for help from the angels of cool.

This topic can be an interesting experiement.
Changing our body temperature at will is possible and pretty easy to do for alot of people (...why can't astral projection be like this?!)...
Within the tao of Ninjitsu, there is a martial practice called Kuji-Kiri where, in one of nine stages, it involves hyper-saturating the breathe in order to raise the body's temperature. The reverse is easily achievable as well.
We all experience temperature fluctuations within our bodies. The hypothalamus is what regulates our body temperature. It heats you up when you are active so you sweat and cool off. It also drops body temperature when we sleep.
It's probable that cooling sensations which are often associated with splitting the astral/physical body are people consciously experienceing the temp drop before sleep, so that probably is another good sign for us to use in order to validate a split is approaching. I have a hard enough time paying attention so it could also easily become a distraction!

I know what you are talking about Andrew. It happens to me when I want to project and I'm not physically tired or sleepy. One time I got so hot I had to stop and when I got up from the bed, it felt like something very hot had been in my bed. The sheets were really hot to the touch. It is definitely a physical heat. It seems to happen when I am trying to force an astral projection.
The opposite happens when I am sleepy or tired. I get cold and have to have covers on me. This is when I have successful projections.

Like Dusty said, for me too raising temperature seems to happen if I force too much the practice. I find it's quite chllenging to learn how to apply just enough force required for concentration.
If I don't try hard enough, it just doesn't work; but if I try too hard, it works, but in the wrong way.
Besides concentration of the mind, another challenge is quite physical -laying down still and not moving. A bit of physical exercises and nice, relaxing shower help me with that.
Take care Andrew, kind regards!

I have also experienced this, Andrew. For me, it has only occurred during good meditation practices. It feels like a hot flash, only more intense and can be unbearable. It something that I just strive to ignore because it really will pass after a few moments.

hey Andrew,
I also experience intense heat while meditating. Ive also noticed that when I meditatiing, retrospecting or after Ive had to disintergrating the ego Anger a lot that day-- when i sit down to meditate I experience my body temperature rising, sweating and discomfort. I know that Buddhists call these sensations connected with egos or karma---Sankhara (reaction; mental conditioning). And that by doing meditation one can rid themselved of these Sankharas.
Good Luck,

Hmmm, I dont think im forcing the practice. It usualy begins when things start to go well and my mind starts to clear. I guess I need to judge better the situation and decide accordingly on how many layers I should wear.
Thank you for your replies, they have given me something to think about.
