I'm new to this study of gnosticsm and i was wondering if the name "mystic" is just another name for a gnostic?

also for those who read poetry , or who know of the anciet poet name Rumi, would you say he is a gnostic or mystic

Perhaps one and the same thing. I know this website used to be named Mysticweb.

Well, I don't know precisely how to define a mystic... a mystic could maybe be a clairvoyant, or someone who is searching to learn the secrets of the universe or something... I think there are different ways of defining a mystic.

A Gnostic is someone who is trying to rid himself of the negativity, which is inside everyone of us, through inner self-discovery and esoteric practices.
Not believing blindly in anything, but verifying things personally through direct experience.

Just to back up what Christian said,
Gnosis in Greek means knowledge, or more directly knowledge through experience.
I think Mystic is just a general term used to describe someone that searching for the divine or connection to higher consciousness.
And Rumi has some fantastic work, definitely worth checking out.
