Sometimes when the egos attack en-masse, and we have thoughts running through our head every moment of the day, it's easy to focus on the negative and think we'll never get out of our situation. At times like these, we can turn the tables by looking into the egos of hopelessness and seeing that, like every ego, they can be overcome. It also helps to remember the successes we've had (though not to dwell on them).

There must be a performance, or competition ego that makes everyone think they can "win" at something.

In essence, all one has to do is be aware and contine the Buddhist Annhilation with attributing pertinence to thoughts.

This is tough with flattery.

Hopelessness could be defined as a state that decieve us into an idea of no possible solution. The most common inner behavior is to escape from suffering or inner difficulties, and when there seems to be no superficial escapatory, the negative states can get a big advantage of it if we don't do anything.
We can reflex a bit and plan to do action to get out of such state. Because if a problem has solution then we should be able to find it, and if a problem has no solution then we shouldn't waste energy on it. Internally speaking though, there is always a solution, and that is to pray, because we are not alone, then follow it by 'doing something', for example we could go for a walk in nature, to practice the peace of the present moment with the goal of clearing our centres of everything, we can practice a mantra. It's important to take over the 'hopelessness' and realize that if we go ahead, in what we know we can do in our situation, new opportunities will come.

I know what you mean, Julian. The more we let that ego distract us, it keeps getting stronger and can prevent us from using the precious moments we have.

All the strength,

"Internally speaking though, there is always a solution, and that is to pray, because we are not alone, then follow it by 'doing something' [...]"

I have been learning about this recently Mauricio. It seems to me that we need to increase the product a X b where a = sincere praying, and b = positive action.

In his Night Journey, when the prophet reached the highest point of his ascent, two verses were revealed unto him without Gabriel having to act as a conveyer:

285. The messenger believeth in that which hath been revealed unto him from his Lord and (so do) the believers. Each one believeth in Allah and His angels and His scriptures and His messengers -- We make no distinction between any of His messengers -- and they say: We hear, and we obey.* (Grant us) Thy forgiveness, our Lord! Unto Thee is the journeying.

*(my comment) Refers to intuition along with conscience.

286. Allah tasketh not a soul beyond its scope. For it (is only) that which it hath earned, and against it (only) that which it hath deserved. Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget, or miss the mark! Our Lord! Lay not on us such a burden as thou didst lay on those before us! Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear! Pardon us, absolve us and have mercy on us! Thou, our Protector, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk.
