Hi, I have signed up to Gnosticweb after feeling a spiritual awakening in recent months. I have previously never had any experience, knowledge or feelings to do with the spiritual and find it a little strange how I got to be here. However, I look forward to enlightening myself with the wealth of information this website and it's books have to offer. I have suffered with heavy, debilitating bouts of depression coupled with Anxiety for several years, which are effecting my life in a very negative way. I can't really pinpoint the reasons why I am suffering with these negative emotions. I hope I am able to find help and guidence here, in order beat these negative states. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks Mike |

First off Welcome and I think that the courses here will be a lot of help to you. You might want to start with the self -discovery course which will give you the answers to your questions. In the meantime you can read: Revolutionary Psychology which is a free download here on this site.

Hi Mike
Welcome to this site. The self-knowledge course Tony mentioned is a good start , there you learn about the structure of the psyche and you learn other things like being in awareness which has a very beneficial effect on the psyche. Later in the gnostic wisdom course you learn how to remove the sources of the negative states like anger or depression, so that those negative states don't come back.
You find all the online courses at this place:

Welcome to the site, Mike :-) I'm sure many people here can relate to what you say about depression and anxiety, many of us have struggled with those same inner states. The good news is they can be dealt with. As the others have mentioned, the Self-Discovery course is probably the best course for you to take first - the next course round starts on August 24th.
In the meantime have a read around the site, there's lots of useful material available on the public site - and, of course, the forums too! Good to have you here :-)

Hey Mike,
Depression and low states can be extremely hard to deal with. They cause so much negativity and seem to have a hypnotic hold. Its a strange sort of thing, the more you feel it, the worse it gets.
There are courses given here like Self Discovery and Peace that deal with this sort of subject and teach how to be free of them. To find states of peace, awareness of the present moment, and additionally get a taste of what the spiritual really is and the benefits it has.
In later courses techniques are given that allow one to eliminate these negative emotions and states and gradually increase the spiritual part within. Building up that inner sense of peace, love and wisdom.
For now if you would like some suggestions on how to deal with these problems you can start by watching out for them and not going along with the when they arise. There is a particular feeling that is associated with these states and if your watching you can feel it start up-maybe with something small, e.g. get a bad mark on some trivial exam, kick your toe, ding your car etc.
That feeling of being down starts to creep in and then you start feeling and thinking 'down'. Thus the negative states intensify every further and are increasingly harder to escape from. If you can catch this process early by simply not going along with these early feelings or thoughts you will be able to head off that steep decline into that heavy state.
All the best in your fight, wishing you much strength and a warm welcome to the courses and forums,
Adam

Hey Mike,
As everyone has said that is where to start, but I have also dealt with these states and in the meantime, until you get the tools to find out more about how these emotions work it helps a lot to remain ACTIVE.
When i say this, in the past i have had bad times with depression lasting for weeks or months and my actions that would make it worse would be when i keen my head in a negative frame/mindset, and then i would try forget it with drinking or parties and movies things that get my mind off my internal sate which inevitably just lead back to where i started - vicious cycle.
You have to resort to superior activities like go for a run or exercise, walk in nature meditate. These i think are the first steps to getting out of the cycle.
Until you learn more about the way it works, that would be worth trying..it helped me.
Good luck
Chris

Thanks everyone for your comments. I look forward to starting on the advised courses soon. I have just started reading the Astral travel book by Belzebuub after hearing some good things about the whole experience. Has anyone had much experience with this book?
Thanks

Hey Mike,
The Astral Travel and Dreams book by Belzebuub is very straight forward and practical in both understanding and experiencing astral projection.
I think you will find many many people in the courses, both teachers and students as well as many people who frequent these forums that have a lot of experience with all of Belzebuub's books and teachings as a whole.
Hence why we are here. It works.
Though much of what is taught requires dedication and persistence to work effectively and consistently. This is ultimately an individual approach as degree in efforts and investigation will equal what is gained and achieved.
If you are interested then go after it with all your desire and curiosity. Delve into it and explore the practices and concepts looking for truth and experience and you will be amazed at what you discover.
Best wishes and enjoy the search,
Adam.

Hi Mike,
This sound exactly like you are describing me and how I got here. I also have been suffering from extreme anxiety and minor depresison for many years. Some members here suggested to take the Self Discovery & Peace course to start with. That is what I have done, and on the 1st day I learned how to be aware in the current moment. When you can harness this feeling you aren't clouded with negative thoughts or feelings. It's more of a fresh curiosity with your environment. It was nice but hard to hold without practice. I hope to learn more from these courses as they seem to be going in the right direction for me.
Wish you the best of luck. You don't have to feel alone.
Peace

Hi Mike,
I was just wondering if you feel very worried or have a sense of feeling scared before the depression sets in as in the past I've experienced depressive states when I was really worried about something, that worry really ate away at me and then I felt this depressed state that lasted for 2 - 3 days. From what I've found it's a fear or worry that lead me into a heavy state like depression, so if you've taken up the self discovery course you'll find out how to spot the worries and fears with the practices of awareness and inner observation and once you understand how the particular state works you can take the power that it has on you away with the understanding you've gained & further spiritual work.
All the best for the courses
Steve
