The other day I had some programming work to do so I figured (once again) that I'd try really hard to be aware. I noticed something interesting this time though. When I would be coding a line I would think(concentrating) each word that I had to type and then my fingers would start typing. I noticed that I can think words a lot faster than I can type, and my motor can type correctly words without me concentrating. So I discovered that between thinking a word and the next I can really push to be aware. I felt like I was constantly flipping between 2 ways of being, often within a second. I would go from thinking a word(or two) to focusing on awareness. I'm still experimenting with it now as I type. In fact I think I will type a few more words just for practice :). Has anyone else noticed this flicking between concentrating and being aware while typing? It feels like the tiniest change of sensation in my mind, then it disappears as soon as I have finished thinking the word. I noticed something similar when reading one of samael's books. After reading each paragraph (A natural break) I would pause for a moment trying to push the awareness to greater clarity, before reading the next. Both programming and reading have never felt so good (peaceful and clear) :D. I think doing a mantra for 30 mins before hand probably helped, although I don't know how. |

Yes, I've noticed something similar. I don't need to concentrate too hard on typing because the motor centre takes care of that, i just try to be aware of the fact that my fingers are flying across the keyboard, without focusing too much on each key i press.
Some activities require more concentration than others, and concentration is basically just directing my awareness to one thing (whatever activity i might be doing). For example, when washing dishes, i try to be aware of the movements i am making, the smell and feel of the dishwashing soap and the water running over my hands, etc. The motor centre is not as quick here as it is while I'm typing, so i have to concentrate more.
Its amazing how even mundane things like typing and washing dishes can be used as great opportunities to practice awareness and feed the consciousness, and the more we practice, i agree that it becomes more peaceful and clear.

Very interesting approach.
I'll give it a go tomorrow and come back to you.
One thing I have noticed, if I push very hard I can bring myself out of my head as I think, and achieve a sense of separation from the mind. I sought of seem to be thinking in the heart.
When I do this on the computer I am conscious of my mind and my senses but not caught within them. I find this very tough to maintain, as my job is very intellectual and I'm on a computer all day.
Thanks for the tip.

Yes that's what it feels like for me to. It takes a really big push to maintain that sense of separation.
