I was wondering if anyone would like to have a summer study group for those of us who can't make a retreat? It would be great if we could study one of Samael's works or one of the Gnostic Gospels. I'm really uneducated in this area and would love it if someone could lead a group reading each week and then we could make up our own practices to find out about it. Anyone experienced enough to lead it? |

That's a great Idea Dusty,
Let me double check with someone else if this is suitable for the public forums...
There might not be an issue, just let me check though...

Hi Ruben,
Thanks so much. It would be great to study some of the writings. Even if we don't do practices and just have intellectual discussions.

Hi Dusty!
I've got a proposal of my own (perhaps unworkable to begin with). I haven't been able to show the dark mythology to my family -- or discuss it in a forum since I've actually only seen half of the entire composition/story. There is a lot of symbolism in it; maybe we could work together to discuss it (I'd certainly benefit from knowing what gnosis might have to say about it, and in general). I recognised a few scenes to be strongly related to esoteric incidences from the Quran. The 12 hour long story is worth it if only for the artistic depiction towards the end of (what I felt to be) what it would be like to truly recieve help beyond one's own being.
We'd need a private forum that's for sure I think. I even think GW might need to be a prerequisite: the language of Reiki and yokai is used (its hard to say this when I'm the one proposing and I haven't taken it). It's part of an anime so I don't know if copyright is a problem (TV show). Some of it would be script and some audio with sparse stills, and a little would be full video, all downloadable from somewhere. This would also restrict the more ego feeding parts.

Are you in the course rounds Dusty in that case you could ask your course teacher and other group members to get together for some group practise.
I am sure your course teacher would be able to give you some insights for such a group gathering. Its not unusual, there are group practises during course breaks etc.
cheers,
Juliana

I have thought a bit about my proposal, and I think I will consider doing it after completing GW myself, God willing. However, I would like to e-mail the material over a few or several weeks to you Dusty. You could go over it with your husband as well. Wouldn't the time spent be worth it he found it inspirational enough to actually start driving with you to the center Dusty?

Hi Asim,
Thanks for the offer, but I am such a beginner that I would rather study the material that is offered here at gnosticweb first. I think I would find myself in overwhelm trying to study a video game. I don't play them either, so I would really be at a loss.
As for driving to the study center, that's a long way off before we get to that stage in our relationship. At this point, he's not even reading the books I gave him. I would rather that he read those first before I even broach other subjects with him.
But anyway, thanks again for the offer. You are very kind to care and be willing to share your experiences.

"I think I would find myself in overwhelm trying to study a video game."
You've got Shining Force confused with the dark mythology Dusty. Shining Force is roughly 30 hours of gameplay. If one is able to play it with the awareness of a child, it can provide a glimpse into the soul of the earth:
"During the time of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, Elementals of nature were manifest everywhere, penetrating profoundly into our physical atmosphere.
There are many tales about elves, leprechauns and fairies, which still abound in green Erin, Ireland. Regrettably all these things of innocence, all the beauty of the Earth's soul, is no longer perceptible by humanity, owing to the so-called knowledge of the villains of the intellect and the excessive development of the animal Ego." (tGR, p39)
The game's value is in its art: its use is not to provide knowledge so that, for example, the mind can be better used to communicate with elementals; but merely to provide food for the essence.
The art in the dark mythology (12 hour video) depicts dark themes along with good ones, and is very highly charged. I don't know how you found the common Athenian uprising video, but a few videos like that for me can potentially ruin a day's awareness. Yes, the good themes feed the essence, but it's meant to give shock treatment, to open one's eyes, to make one want to break free of the shackles of mundane life after accepting the outside chance that there have been people in existance who've had to make barely imaginable sacrifices for the sake of true peace.
"At this point, he's not even reading the books I gave him. I would rather that he read those first before I even broach other subjects with him."
With my family I am close to my mother so I've shown her a few important segments of the mythology (she doesn't get the time), but its very difficult for me to share anything emotionally charged with my brother. Say Dusty, maybe you could have him read my post dealing with pride in the "fear beyond logic" topic and you could see the documentary with your husband.
"You are very kind to care and be willing to share your experiences."
I think I have a great hunger for inspiration. I don't read any large biographies, just an article about an accomplished person and a depiction and take pleasure in filling in some details myself. At times, I think, this pleasurable activity leads to telling another about the person. Sometimes there is genuine sharing: sharing with a yearning rather than for seeking pleasure. I have to investigate how much the following might apply to me:
"The 'I', the myself, wants to grow, improve, evolve, [--->] interact with the great people on Earth, to acquire influence, position, wealth, etc. Superficial changes in our person are useless, they do not change anything and do not transform anyone or anything." (tRotD, p61)

Hello Everyone,
It is a very timely suggestion as there are some changes coming to the structure of the courses here that will incorporate this to better facilitate the way we all share and learn here.
Stay tuned.
