Hey guys I need some help. What do you make of this passage: Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor In spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" Is Jesus trying to tell us not to en devour the spiritual work? Mitch |

Hello Mitch,
Understanding the meaning in sacred texts can be difficult as they are often written in a symbolic form. The best way to gain understanding as taught here and from what I have found is to use intuition which is more a feeling or instant understanding rather than a mental analysis.
There is an article on understanding sacred texts here if you are interested.
Take care,
Adam.

thanks for replying Adam
I read that page and I when I do get into the Astral I will investigate this personally.
The reason I posted this is, I hang around allot of christians and they tend to criticise the concept of me thinking I am able to overcome my ego's without admitting I'm powerless and handing it over to god.
I guess what I really wanted to find is some other people's perspectives on this, and how we are in fact using the power of god (our consciousness) and how we can sustain humility so that we don't become just a larger ego eliminating smaller ego's.
But yeah I will keep working on it, was just trying to get some ideas off you guys.

Hi Mitch,
"Poor in spirit" can perhaps mean people who don't serve an "idol of materialism", but instead of it unite with Divine...or it can have a deeper meaning...
From the little I understand, while reading of the Bible or any other sacred text, it's important not to take a one phrase out of the context of the whole but rather study it all together and go further than the first simplest meaning, because the Bible was translated a few times, was written in a very different time from ours, has a lot of symbolism in it, and unfortunately was very likely to have been adulterated by some of the corrupted officials, before it reached us in the present form.
If we read St Mathew just a bit further, Jesus says:
"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God"
I ask myself...is it possible to be pure in heart withour developing inner strength and dealing with inner defects which is spiritual work, and as any work, has many components in it, all necessary, in order to be successful?
If a person just "believes" in sport ideals, will it make them to be a good athlete? If a person just "believes" in science... is it enough to be a good scientist?
To be pure in heart, to be a good servant of God...is it enough just to "believe" in God and keep strengthening this belief?
"God helps those who can help themselves", what is really enough for us to help ourselves?
"The reason I posted this is, I hang around allot of christians and they tend to criticise the concept of me thinking I am able to overcome my ego's without admitting I'm powerless and handing it over to god."
From the little I know, connection with Divine is essential in order to defeat the "seven deadly sins", Gnostic Wisdom course covers it in details.
Just a few ideas from me...
Best wishes!

We can't destroy the egos from ourself, only God can do that. The techniques for the disintegration of the egos are given in the Gnostic Wisdom course, it involves going to God for their destruction.
