Hey everyone,

Recently I was looking at some artwork on Wikimedia Commons. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

This is a site similar to wikipedia (run by the same people I think) that has a lot of artwork that is in the public domain. There are a lot of high quality classical images there that would print out quite large from painters like Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Crivelli, Michaelangelo, Raphael, Fra Angelico, Rubens (and the list goes on).

So if you're looking for high quality artwork by a particular artist to print out and put on your wall or for your computer desktop etc., it seems like a good place to look to find it!

You can search by artist name or by subject like St Michael or St George etc.

Thanks for reading,
David

:) Find anything good?

My favourite is the St Michael image image by Carlo Crivelli!

Strange thing is, I looked at it so many times, and it took me a long time to realise he was actually standing on a demon..

We have a wonderful spring here, and I checked for some pictures by Isaac Lewitan...his colors are absolutely amazing.

But actually I was looking for Konstantin Vasiliev.

Maybe you'll like his pictures too, many of them are about heroes from Russian and Scandinavian mythes.
They are not esoteric, but have a much deeper meaning than most of the fantasy paintings.

I like a lot too images of St Michael and demon too; and also St George and dragon.

I had a look at Isaac Levitans paintings. The colours are pretty amazing!

Thanks for those other links. I like the black and white drawing of the knight fighting the dragon with multiple heads.

Thanks!

I like it a lot too.
In that myth there was an evil dragon who used to terrorize a whole country.
That knight got rid of his offsprings first and then fought the dragon and almost defeated it, when a dragon asked him for mercy and promised to never do any evil to people of that country.

Very soon after that, dragon not only forgot about a promise, but has stolen a princess.

So, that knight had to fight him again, and defeat it this time.

here is another picture of Saint Michael.
