Mother's Intuition
Intuition has helped me in many areas of my life. In day-to-day life, it has helped me countless times in little ways. For example, yesterday I was about to open door "A" to a classroom (as usual) and decided to open door "B" when I young man came out of door "A" very quickly, and would have run right into me. It's also kept me out of harm's way in more serious situations, such as when I encountered a family of bears in the mountains as I was taking an awareness walk. When it comes to taking care of my son, I tend to rely too much on what the experts say (which is often contradictory) and my overactive instincts. Neither of these have proven to be as effective and adaptive as my intuition has in other areas of my life.
My son just recently became mobile (he crawls) and is very interested in the world around him. So, I want to use intuition when making decisions both to help enhance his life and to protect him from harm's way. I want to use my intuition as a guide to determine what he should be exposed to, rather than just buying all the name brand toys. Likewise, I recognize that I can't think of every possible danger to protect him, so I'd like to use my intuition more to know when something is not quite right or could be potentially harmful (while still protecting him from those things that could obviously cause harm).
For the next two weeks, I am going to try to make it a habit to use my intuition when caring for him. To do this, I am going to practice a mantra that increases intuition (from the self-discovery course) each day for at least 20 minutes. Then, I am going to try to rely on intuition more, keeping myself in awareness so I will be open to it. At the end of each day, I will do a retrospection to assess whether I am on task, how I made decisions regarding my son throughout the day, and what I've learned about using intuition.
I will post the progress at the end of both weeks in this blog. If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to post those here; I appreciate it.
Thanks,
Gabrielle

Hello Gabrielle, Intuition
Hello Gabrielle,
Intuition is the best decision-maker. You are using your intuition to decide to develope and use you intuition more.
Your plan is very clear. I will like to read your progress.
By the way, it was great to meet you in person and talk with you.

Thanks for sharing.
All the best with the progress, Gabrielle and all of us!

I can't wait to hear your progress! Intuition has defintitely helped me with raising my boys...but I know my intuition would be much clearer if i made it a goal to develop it more as you are doing. You have inspired me to do this as well! Thank you :)
and good luck!
Hi Gabrielle- Good luck with
Hi Gabrielle-
Good luck with your work this week. I'm sure that your work with the mantras will increase the faculty of intuition, particularly if you get into a good mode of practise. It's really nice to hear that your son will benefit from this exercise too.
kind regards,
Yvette
Hi Gabrielle, That sounds
Hi Gabrielle,
That sounds like a really steady plan that can bring great results!
Interestingly, I have recently made morning O practices a goal for myself, wanting to make intuition a bigger part of my life, as I have been trying to solve so many things lately in which the mind seems to take me into opposite directions! I would be glad to hear of your experiences with it.
All the best!
That's a great plan! It will
That's a great plan! It will be interesting to hear how are you coping with your instincts, as I understand it they're particularly intense in mothers, and I've experienced how it is easy to confuse instincts with intuition.

Hello Gabrielle,
a family of bears you say? :-O That has always been my nightmare when walking in Slovak mountains. :-) Would like to know more about this if you don't mind...

Thanks for your support and
Thanks for your support and encouragement. It has been a difficult start, so this is very strengthening :)
Good luck with it, Katie. A friend was telling me about a book she recently read that talks about how, with all of the information we have available (e.g., with the internet), we stopped relying on our motherly instincts. The book was written in 1979! So, imagine how much it's changed since then.
Yvette, I am really hoping to get into the mode of practicing with the mantras again. It really adds a lot to my life. I hope you are doing well. I think about the post you made about television whenever something equivalent tries to take me off my path.
Matija, I'm glad you mentioned that because I realized after reading this that the instincts are a bigger problem than I thought. Not the normal motherly instincts, but the egos that come through there taking advantage of those instincts.
Lucia, I know what you mean. I would get so anxious about the bears whenever I'd go to the mountains that I would sometimes not make it a half a mile before going back to the road :) I wrote an article about that particular incident here:

It was one of the scariest, but faith-building situations of my life.
I'll post an update on Monday. I'd love to hear of your progress with intuition, too Olga and Yvette as you go along.
Thanks,
Gabrielle

I would love to know how you are going with this.
I'm not a mother, but I do have a dog and intuition can sometimes be very useful. We were away with Spud this weekend and letting him run offlead in an area outside our accommodation, when I got a 'something bad will happen feeling'. I ignored it, because I am rather paranoid about spud and his safety and am trying to get past that and seconds later he ran into the barbed wire fence.
Very luckily, he only got a tiny scratch on his ear, but given that the barbed wire was at eye level, could have been much worse.
