hello everyone, I am new to this website. I have always been very rooted in the ideals of society: good in school, sports, looks, etc...but I now realize that all of these things really are empty and do not make me happy at all. i bought some of belzebuub's books and i feel so much better, although i realize that i have much, much to learn. I am a senior in high school this year, and before I learned all this stuff I applied to some really tough schools. I have eliminated my college choice to two schools: Case Western and UPenn. I decided before I heard from Penn that I would go to Case because it is generally viewed as "boring" (even though this is not what i believe) and I know I will be much less distracted by society there. My parents are full of pride because they know how hard i worked to get into Penn but they don't understand that I believe my esoteric/spiritual focus will be shifted if i go to Penn and am subjected to the wheel of life more. On the other hand, achieving enlightenment comes from within so I think I could also do it at Penn, it would just be much harder. I don't think I am ready to deal with the distractions at Penn (the feeling that you are superior to others, making a lot of money, getting famous, parties, etc). What should I do? I need help. I have meditated a lot on the subject and am still confused, although I think I feel in my intuition that Case is right. |

Hi Justin,
I was in similar situation last year, when I had to apply to university. Then I first looked for an opportunity to go and study somewhere near a gnostic centre, but this turned out to be impossible at the time, so I just proceeded with the options I had. The situation with education where I live is much different than in the U.S.,..but well, I was worried about basically the same things.
I think for me it wasn't the studying that made it more difficult for the spiritual work (although my major is considered pretty difficult and demanding). It was the new surroundings and place of living actually that made things a bit harder, but I think eventually I'm learning to cope with that.
Really, it is up to you how fast you'll get used to the new and manage to integrate the spiritual work in your life. University/college is what you make of it, the choice is yours.
You know your situation best, so only you can take the best decision.
I wish you much strength, I'll follow the thread to see how things are going with you.
best wishes!

Hey Justin,
As everyone has helpfully pointed out you can do the work anywhere though some situations do make it more difficult. Ultimately its up to us how much we want to do the work that dictates how far we go with it not the circumstances that surround us.
However we learn what we need to in the life, work and social environments around us and as such having high qualifications helps people to do that . Difficult situations will arise wherever you are and whatever you are doing, its just up to the individual to use these for learning about who and what we are and how to change.
Try and listen to your heart and not your head about where you should go. You could ask your divine parents for guidance and look at any dreams to try and get direction.
Either way, you sound determined and passionate and they are great characteristics to have to go after spiritual things. I wish you all the best with it Justin.
Take care,
Adam.

Just a reflection on the subject of schooling;
_______________________________________
Why does it matter what university we get to identify with on paper in order to get a job?
Here in the U.S. they all center around taking your money and making you take classes on things you already learned about in elementary school.
After that, you can study what you want, but still fork over money for it - of course.
Just because you have credentials doesn't mean you will be good at your job.
I've come to know of ALOT of incompetent people that get privelleged jobs not because they are qualifed by skill, but because they basically paid for a school to put their name on a piece of paper that says they can do it when the fact remains that they can not.
And from an early age individualism is nurtured in kids but as you progress through the grades, you are being molded to be like everyone else and plugged into a system based on the fear they promote that proposes one can not support a family, or get a job, if you don't do it "their way."
It's all hypocritical thinking and whoever is in charge of education seems to know that and is doing it on purpose.
It's - "teach people insane things that don't matter and never educate them on what is really going on in the universe."
Is there any way to exact the kind of change needed?
Side note: Has anyone else read Samael's essay on fundamental education?

I see your point Apakhana and you are right.People grow up with this belief and it is very difficult to get over it.
I have read Fundamental Education but I find it's application in modern education system almost impossible.
Modern education is based on materialism, totally opposite with Master's suggestion of spiritual education.

Wow I completely agree, Apakhana. I feel like we are living in The Matrix in a sense, and it's our duty to fight the power that enslaves us--materialism, for one thing--so that we may be saved. I think it's useless trying to change the system though, rather we should focus on changing ourselves. People that wish to be awakened will seek spiritual salvation by themselves despite what the world tells them. Still, it would be awesome to make a spiritual school somewhere in the wilderness that children could attend.

Good luck with whatever decision you decide to make Justin :)
I went through something similliar when it came to choosing a school to go to, and ultimately, followed intuition and made the right choice.
May the force be with you.
