I have had to deal with similar things. It is indeed frustrating, but then thats just another ego in itself :-)
Have you taken the self-discovery course? That course deals with sub-conscious elements like fear, anger etc and how to not go along with them, then in the Gnostic Wisdom course the details are given to eliminate them. Its worth checking it out if you haven't already. I think you will find both courses will help a lot with astral projection and the spiritual work as a whole.
Egos like fear that stop us from projecting are usually coming up through the day. If you can watch out for it , slight anxiety, heavy feeling in the stomach etc, spot it, and not go along with it you should find this will help a lot with conquering that same ego during the night.
In reference to your question of where you would of went...? Other then my speculation of finding yourself in your bedroom or drawn to some inexplicable astral location for a profound spiritual teaching-I would have to say that is something only you will be able to find out.
I would love to here about it when you do though ;-)
You cant beat the pure element of magical mystery.
If you have any more inquiries post away and someone will be able to give you some advice. If you do have access to any course forum areas it's also great to make use of that and the wealth of information held in there by those relevant teachers.
