Wow, I had no idea it was so easy to do. If any newcomers to AP are reading this, then take inspiration from it. I know it's slightly overwhelming to read how everyone else here can at least project themselves, and you haven't even started. Don't worry. Astral travel comes so naturally, you'll laugh at how easy it is. Anyway, I was having a little nap in the morning since I awoke prematurely, and I slipped into what I think is called REM sleep. I kept waking up because I realised I was dreaming (No lucid dreams for me), so I decided to practise meditating while I was sleepy. All I had to do was get into a comfortable back-down position, and I barely even thought of meditating until I felt the tingling and vibrations. None of it worried me, since I already had the reassurances of this website (thanks), but one thing I found really terrifying at first was that creepy noise. It sounded like an alien was screaming in my head, just waiting for me to cross over. Again, I felt reassured by what I'd already read here, so I went ahead anyway. My experience was pretty typical; blurry, trying to look at myself, trying to move through walls, trying to go other places and fly. None of it was working. It felt just like having a dream, except I knew it was real because I could even see through my physical eyes and not move my fingers at all. I kept faltering, so I had to AP about 3-4 times (I still can't believe how EASY it is. I didn't even have to concentrate, just think about concentrating and it happens). Questions now: I did it while I was in the middle of sleeping. Is this a bad thing? Did I take a shortcut, or is this the right way to do it? It felt disappointingly like a lucid dream that I couldn't really control. I experienced none of the feelings that other people have described. How do I gain more control and make them last longer? I know there's a course in May, but I'm impatient, and I may not have access to a computer then. Why is it so difficult to percieve oneself whilst AP'ing? I looked, but all I could see was a shadow that could have been a crease in the covers. |

2 more questions:
Is it necessary to be sleepy/asleep when Astral travelling?
I keep hearing about Mantra's. What are these and where can I find them?

Excellent, good work! I hope others will be motivated by this and will continue trying.
Astral projection can be very easy at times, particularly if we're helped by the Divine. As you practice, I think you'll find we're responsible for most of the obstacles we encounter in trying to reach the astral.
Here are the anwers to your questions.
1. No, it's not, so there's no reason to feel bad about it. It is actually a common "trick" - wake up an hour or two before you usually do, wake yourself up a bit, and then try a practice. Many people have had success with that, because at that time the body is well rested and can stay awake longer, while the environment is suitable for a good practice.
2. That's a good question, one I asked myself many times. Astral experiences are determined by the state of our psyche, if we can learn about ourselves and find out what we have to do to change ourselves for the better, our experiences will be more lucid and will last longer. Other than that, it is important to learn how to be as concentrated and as aware as possible while being on the astral. All of this is covered on the course, but, to sum it up, the main thing that needs to be addressed is the psyche. If we can increase its lucidity, our astral experiences will be affected by this.
3. I don't know, really. I know many people have had trouble seeing their physical body sleeping. Again, it could be something related to the mind and the psyche.

2 more answers: :-)
1. Yes, it is required to fall asleep in order to astral project. We actually have to fall asleep as normal, the only difference is that we're aware of the whole process.
2. There are several kinds of Mantras, the one you heard of are probably those for astral projection. You can learn about them on the astral course. By pronouncing those, your chakras/energy centres are activated, and these trigger astral projection. It is a whole technique that really has to be explained in more detailed to be properly understood, but this is the gist of it.
All the best,

Thanks for the answers.
Now, one last question:
Apparently, dreams take place on the Astral Plane. So what's the difference between Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming?

Hello there,
If you practice a technique for astral projection, (lying on your back, relaxing and then focusing, physical body falls asleep, consciousness remain awake), and then you get to project consciouslly to the astral, then this is called astral projection.
Lucid dreaming happens when you are asleep and then you become conscious during a regular dream. Maybe the dream becomes very real, and you even become aware that it is a dream, so you start to question if you are actually in the astral.
One can become fully conscious from a lucid dream and actually be able to explore reality in the astral world, as the perception becomes clearer.
All this is affected by our ability to focus and be conscious. We can train this during the day by being always focused in the moment, and avoiding day dreams. The more lucid and focused we are during the day, the more lucid our dreams will be.
good luck.

Ah, thanks. I was just explaining this to my friend.
Is it also possible, using concentration, to force the body to sleep while you AP? Something about the idea of AP'ing whenever the mind wills is quite appealing.
Also, what's the best way to convince sceptic (but open-minded) friends of this?

Hi Fish,
The power of concentration is really amazing. Along with relaxation, it seems to be the essential ingredient to projecting at will.
If we are not falling asleep it's often because we are lost in thought or some other state, but by concentrating our sole focus us upon one thing and this brings in sleep very quickly, also allowing us to be conscious of our body falling asleep.
Scepticism / doubts can be transcended through experience. As long as someone is open-minded enough to practice techniques for astral projection then they can see the truth for themselves. Personal experience is really the only way we can know the truth.
And sharing your experiences, when appropriate, can be a motivation to look into those things. There's something really powerful about being with someone who speaks from their experience.
All the best!
Mike
