Hello everyone, my name is Yorghos and i'm from Greece. I begun to read about OBEs and Astral projection 2-3 months ago. Some weird symptoms i experienced and didn't know what they were, made me look a bit more into this. At the beginning it was happening without me knowing much or trying to do anything to induce it. Even after a lot of reading about the OBE subject, I would "wake" up having the buzzing into my head and take it from there but as soon as i felt like i was leaving my body, i lost concentration and there i was again in my body with a numb feeling all over. Anyway, i had more of these incidents the last 2 months but yesterday night it was a bit extended..... Last night i went in bed at 1:00am because of a stupid movie i was watching. I was feeling uneasy so i couldn't get to sleep, i was in a "wake up and begin to fall asleep again" state until 3:00 am. I also had in mind about trying to have an OBE because i could feel my body relaxed and numbed several times, because of this "wake up and begin to fall asleep again" state. Once i kind of "got right out" of bed, not like levitating or anything, just like i would get up normaly out of bed, but out of the body. I remember having an image of a block of flats and one of them having light inside (it was around 3am, at least in my country). After that, I remember myself being inside a small apartment watching a young boy brushing his teeth in the bathroom, i was in the hall just outside the bathroom and I could see a man that gave me the impression of being the boy's father, sitting on a bed in a room at the end of the hallway. Just a glimpse about my body passed through my mind and there i was at my bed waking up. The only thing that again makes me doubt that the experience was an OBE is that i can't seem to remember the whole thing, i seem to have forgoten some parts of it, like how i got to this never seen before apartment. I don't remember flying to it thought i have a picture of it from the outside in my mind. I was under the impression from other people's sayings that it should be a VERY vivid and striking experience, but then again I'm not easily shocked. It didn't feel like it was something new to me although it was my first consious "out of my room" trip. Is it possible when you're having an OBE to have forgotten some parts of it when you wake up? Thats what makes it look like a dream to me... Could it be just a dream about having an OBE? The whole experience isn't like crystal clear in my memory. |

Hi George,
I'd say you were definitely out-of-body! Congrats on having such a long-lasting first astral experience!
The sleep paralysis, feeling light, etc. are all very normal processes we go through when we are physically falling asleep and our astral body is detaching. But as you noted, if we get distracted, even if we're close to projecting, the process can come to an abrupt end.
The clarity with which we see things when we're in the astral can vary a lot. Depending on the state of our psyche and how awake our consciousness is (and it is possible to awaken our consciousness through techniques for self-knowledge), we could see everything with perfect clarity and objectivity and remember it all, we could even be completely unconscious (as in the case of dreams) and maybe not remember any details, or we could be anywhere in-between.
It sounds like the experience was quite clear and I don't think you have any reason to doubt it; the lack of clear memory could also have come about after you woke up - we're bound to forget a detail or two of experiences. For example, here in the physical world if you go to a meeting, how long does it take to forget what everyone present was wearing? A minute? Ten? Not long at any rate :)
To remember more details it can help to lie still in bed and try to imagine ourselves back in the astral scenario in as much detail as we can. Sometimes more details come to the surface in this state.
Yeah, just the slightest thought about our physical body and we can wind up in bed. The same goes with strong emotions like excitement - we can lose the experience immediately.
What a great experience! I wish you many more!

Hi Mike and thank you for your reply :)
I don't know how but i also remember myself spinning around myself when begining to lose clarity, somehow it worked and i was more consious after i did that.
This is a method i read somewhere to keep yourself from waking up while in a lucid dream, i don't know why it came to me to do this but i remember it having a possitive effect. Maybe it kept me from loosing consiousness.
Anyway, as i said in my first post this is my first prolonged experience, i had some others but very short and always within my room.
I'm a bit puzzled with all the things i've read, people say that you should make a circle of protection before attempting and stuff like that... Is it really that dangerous to astral travel?
Did you have any bad experience that somehow caused harm to you or totaly freaked you out?
There is a gnostic Center in Athens which is where i live but i haven't gone there yet and the site is so minimal, it only has a mobile phone number to get in contact with them.
I'm in search of other people to physicly talk to (not just through the internet) and help me in my first steps. I came accross a female friend's friend that had intence experiences but she wouldn't talk much about them, she had totally freaked out (as she never intended to have them) and turned to religion.... no comment on that.

Hi George! From my experience, (which is not so big anyway!), it realy helps to be in contact with other people who are trying for the same thing. I also have trouble using the site, it's so much better to be in a classroom with other people. You are fortunate enough to have a center close to you, so make the best of it. The days i visit them even me exercises go better. So give it a try, there is so much to learn!

Hi kassandra,
i understand that you're already a member of Athens gnostic Center right? How did you become a member, did you call them or did you go straight there?
I have the need to learn more and become a member but i'm a bit reluctant, the site doesn't help either, it gives very little information, insufficient for someone to form an image about whats it like there and how the Center operates.
I need some answers and i need them soon because i feel a bit confused and scared about whats happening to me.
Scared mostly because of things i've read about other people's experiences with negatives trying to hinder their OBEs.

AIII!!! Stop waring about that.
I managed it 3 times and yes the very first one there was something not very pleasant with me. Nothing bad happened ecxept that i couldn't leave my room and i was very cold. Thats all.
To tell you the truth that time that i fellt threatened i stayed allert longer than the other two, that i lost focus in a matter of seconds! That much for my concentration... Well when i got tired of returning to my body and getting up again and not being able to leave i just decided it was time to wake up. It was that simple, trust me there is nothing easier than to wake up.
You will learn a lot more during the lectures.

Yes, i am a member for 4 months now. I called them first, and when the lessons started, about 1 week later, i went there.
There is nothing to be affraid! In the center they will really help. Its so much easier to ask questions there, and you want believe how patient and willing to help they are. You can always drop by and talk to them. There are lessons every Sunday, with 30 minutes break in between. Why dont you try to come then and talk to the teachers? The breaks are at 5-5.30, 6,30-7, 8-8.30p.m. Dont be affraid of the negative entities, they cannot heart you, the worst that can happen is to spoil a magnificent experience, but soon the teachers will saw you how you can deal with them.
We will be happy to see you there. Do you know where the center is located?

I spoke with ioannis a bit through email and I would be attending this Sunday at 5:30pm if nothing of an urgent matter comes up.
