Hello!
Every time we sleep, we are in the astral plane.
Every time we wake up, we are in the physical body.
With astral projection, we are just conscious of that experience and can choose things and take the most out of it.
Many get nervous about being out of their physical body, so maybe this can be a danger for some people with unstable psyche, but in usual cases, it's relatively easy to overcome fear with practice.
From my experiences, astral projection is very safe.
There is a free course on this site which teaches about it.

As Vadim said there is no risk only only thing is u should control ur fears & thoughts,
In Astral plane your thoughts get manifested , so u should hav control over what you think,.
