Hello, I just signed up at this site and have enrolled for the next OBE course. I was wondering if there were any people on here who have succesfully achieved an OBE and who are not religious at all. I'm not religious(agnostic) and I have to say that i associate all this with religion and God etc. Not to say I don't have an open mind( or I wouldn't have signed up) but it would be nice to know there are some atheïsts or agnostics on here who have had some success after following this course.

Basically I would love to find out that there are indeed things such as life after death, higher planes of existence and so on, but I just don't believe in all that. As I said I'm keeping an open mind but I'm worried my lack of belief this is actually possible is going to hinder me (obviously it's not going to help). Anyway, I'm looking forward to starting the course and hope I learn something from it.

Hello Alexander! :)

I don't know how religious I can call myself ...... but I can say that I believe in God or the Supreme source and it is not something that comes from the Bible for me now or just words to believe in but I was actually able to get a small part of what can be experienced to say and this happened after I practiced awareness from this site.

I have been always skeptical about things that I cannot actually see, touch nor feel and my mind liked to reject everything even the experiences I will receive like seeing spirits, having some kind of clairvoyant visions that I could prove right after I had them etc. It is funny that no matter if you believe in such things or not they exist nonetheless. :)

When I started the Astral course for a first time here all I knew about this subject was from a book that a friend gave me but that didn't help me anyway ......... I was skeptical that maybe there is not such thing but I was reading the lectures from Gnosticweb and I was trying the exercises coz I wanted to know the truth .......... and one night I don't remember which technique I used if it was a mantra or concentrating on the heart beats I was determined to succeed so I was trying to get to the stage of astral projection but I could feel that I needed a little more effort to succeed and that I was closer.I got tired after some time coz I thought it won't work again and I remember I found myself in a state like you are sleeping but in the same time you are not dreaming. So after some time I decided to open my eyes, get up from bed and walk around a little and after I did get up from the bed I realized, I felt and I remembered that I am supposed to be sleeping right now.So I began to think but how is this possible that you can sleep and your body is in the bed and you can walk around in the same time.I couldn't assimilate what was happening with me and that all the things I have heard from the course are real and I am seeing all of that in front of my eyes.I began to walk around the room to see how it feels like to walk and I was looking at the objects and I was thinking but are they real but in the same time everything felt more than real and I remember I felt like I want to touch them. The whole experience was like a big WOW for me.

I hope that maybe my post will help you a little but it all depends on you to get the experience and verify its reality. :)

Goodluck with the course!

Hi Alexander,

I am not religious, and I first took up the astral course in October 2006 and have had quite a bit of success, having had some very profound astral experiences. I know what you mean though about there being quite a ‘religious’ flavor to Gnosticweb, I had the same impression when I first started and it did make me apprehensive also.

I can assure you that lack of belief will not hinder you in anyway, what will determine your success is effort and persistence. It takes a lot of consistent effort in order to be able to project, so the key is not to get discouraged if at first it doesn’t happen for you, but to keep practicing the exercises and training the mind to concentrate and shift your focus to awareness. If you have the will-power to keep at it, you will find success.

This round of courses just started, and I don’t think it’s too late to jump in - if you don’t have access to the course material yet, email course@gnosticweb.com so they can help you.

The word “Gnosis” means knowledge (Greek) - and it’s referring through knowledge through direct experience. Essentially with Gnosis, it is encouraged not to believe or disbelieve anything until you have direct experience of it and then truly ‘know’. Both believing or disbelieving without direct experience can actually hinder having experience, so you are not disadvantaged in any way.

It’s good you are keeping an open mind, do that and investigate for yourself the information you come across, you can investigate things like higher planes and life after death (as I have) and then you will “know” for yourself.

Good luck.

Strength to everyone!

Amy

i do not consider myself religious and i do not agree with a lot of explanations given on this site. its not that i am closed-minded, its just that i prefer to experience something myself firsthand rather than believing something someone tells me. Basically, i prefer to "know" rather than "believe". and yes, i have had many experiences.

you say that you "just don't believe in all of that". i suggest you erase everything you believe and start from scratch. rebuild your belief system based on experience. this is what i did. i try to keep a neutral stance on anything i have not yet experienced. Experience turns beliefs into knowns. With astral projection, you experience existing without a physical body. You no longer have to "believe" that you exist after death, you "know" that you do.

hope this helps a little
