Alchemy is a general term describing a transmutation of substance.
In a historical context it refers to ancient elemental chemistry or botanical chemistry, but in the context of mysticism it refers to transmuting an unrefined, natural substance or energy (symbolized by Lead) and changing it, refining it, into a higher more spiritual substance or christic form (symbolized by Gold).

Alchemy is a spiritual and divine form of sex. The topic is somewhat complex but as Apakhana said, it is discussed in detail in the GW course.
