I have started really having some proper Astral Projection success. During the projections, I think, this is amazing and I remember everything at the time. I think, there is no way I’m going to forget any of this. Unfortunately when I wake up, I forget very quickly and only remember snippets. In Robert Monroe’s excellent book “Mastering Astral Projection” he refers to OBE (Out of Body Experience) memory as “Shadow Memory”. In a very brief summary he says that when you Astral Project, a perfect copy of your thinking conciousness shifts out with your projected double. Your conciousness is split into 2 identical parts. During reintegration, memories from the projected double are downloaded into the brain/mind. He calls this “Shadow Memory Download”. He then goes on to explain that OBE memories are held in much the same way as dream memories, just beyond the edge of conscious memory. In other words, long term Astral Projection memory is similar to long term dream memory, hence if you can improve your dream memory, you can improve your Astral Projection memory. Robert Monroe explains how shadow memory (long term Astral Projection memory) can be trained by keeping a dream journal. This includes writing down keys words from your dream experience as soon as you awaken. Then later on, use these words to try and remember as much of the dream or dreams as possible. The more you do this, the better becomes your dream memory and more importantly your long term Astral Projection memory. I started doing this a while ago and it was amazing just how many dreams I started remembering. Unfortunately, I became lazy recently. Now I’m having a number of Astral Projections, with poor memory recall, I’ve started my dream journal again. MY MOST RECENT ASTRAL PROJECTION MEMORY I remember being outside on an urban street. I saw a road with pavements either side and a tall brick wall or building on one side, just beyond the pavement from where I was looking. I remember finding it very hard to move. It’s hard to explain unless you have experienced it, but I kept fading out, so I remembered a technique I read in another book about how to stabilise this, looking at your hands. I looked at my hands, I saw them, but they sort of dissolved. I remembered thinking about my physical body on purpose to see if I returned, I did. I then consciously exited again. If you return to your physical body and try to project again, as long as your quick, this is normally easy. I then remembered seeing people going about their normal business outside in a residential street. I looked at them, thinking who are they, is there anything I can see to prove I was really here? I looked about, but I was in an unfamiliar neighbourhood and I couldn’t see anything unique to tell me exactly where I was, just plane houses and a few people walking who I didn’t recognise. I remember being totally amazed, concious and alert throughout the whole experience. I knew I was Astral Projecting, it certainly wasn’t like any dream. |

The memoty has a lot to do with level of consciousnes experienced when out of body, which is also connected with your overall level of consciousnes.
By having more experiences it gets easier to maximize the amount of consciousnes used when out of body, relative to the total amount you have. This means the wakefulness is same, similar or closer when out of body to the wakefulness when in the body. By gaining more overall conscioiusnes, wakefulness is also increased here in the physical dimension, and of course in other dimensions.
And by being more awake when out of body, there is an easier and easier time to remember totality of experiences.
There are of course things you can do however in the meantime to help memory. Memory is memory and works the same here and there. This means if you pay attention to something when out of body, rather than just dismissing it etc, chances are higher that you will remember it fully later. If a friend of yours say something and you do not listen nor care, chances are later you have forgotten it, if you pay attention however you are more likely to remember it.
Therefor when out of body you can try and take notice of things more. So when out of body and you see something or hear something you want to remember fully, perhaps think "this was interesting, I will have to pay extra attention to this so I remember it fully when I am back in body". By working more on being aware when out of body, you also naturally and automatically pay more attention to what you experience, and therefor have better memory of it.
The length of the experiences also play a role. You watch a short movie here that is perhaps 10 minutes long, you might be able to play it fully in your mind afterwards. If you watch a movie that is 2 hours, chances are you will not be able to reproduce it fully mentaly afterwards and you will forget more things... I know this is a bad analogy, but it is not toally useless ;) If you experience something when out of body and you want to be sure you remember it all fully, end the experience early and have a much easier time remembering it.
There are of course also other things which can be done to increase and better memory. Such as thinking it through right after returning to body (which is always good), and writing them down.
But again, the more you manage to maximize your available consciousnes when out of body the better the memory... The more awake you are out of body, the better the memory... Which is reason also why increasing overall consciousnes in this world and therefor also other worlds, even more consciousnes is available to you, therefor more awake and better memory out of body.
Hope I am not confusing things, and someone find it helpful.

Hey patrick well explaind,
Hav heard that the real time projection depends on the person's chakra development,,so is it got to anything with memory too?

I'd say the chakras are responsible for a lot of things... Samael mentions in his book a chakra that is responsible for leaving body (heart chakra?) and that if a student has problems he can use mantras to develop this chakra.
But one do have to keep in mind that the chakras are fundamental parts of our bodies. Problems and blockages around the root chakra for instance causes increased problems with lust and egos related to to sexuality. In the end though I would state that all is connected... By elliminating egos such as lust the development and purity of the root chakra also hence increases, causing it to function better.
Same would apply to other chakras, more a person develops (which is related to energetic purity, elliminating egos etc) the more developed and better does the chakras function. Some mantras are said to assist in development, though such would be temporary and there are limits to what they can do.
Since increased energetic purity, ellimination of egos etc result in increased consciousnes, which in turn result in better wakefulness and memory out of body. It also means that since the chakras work better, get more developed etc by developing spiritually, they logically play a part in the memory out of body too, in one way or another.
However in the end what most important in leaving body, is practise and concentration. There can be things which makes things easier or harder... Since we are talking so much of consciousnes in this thread, I can just as well add a few more things... With more consciousnes it becomes naturally more likely to wake up in dreams, and since there are less egos and more centeredness in consciousnes rather than the mind, concentration becomes increasingly more natural, egos dominate less and less.
But these things does not really help you in the now. Rather it is important to realize that by gaining good concentration through practise etc, the main key component for leaving body is there. By doing other practises like reality checks, and even practising to leave body and having experiences out of body, you also increases chances of lucid dreams/waking up in dreams...
The chakras I would say are responsibl for a lot of things, one way or another... It is always worthwhile keep them in good shape. You can do some mantras etc if you like to increase their activity (I cannot comment on how effective they are though in that sense). But it is actual and proper spirtual work and development which in itself helps with all this, chakras get more developed, more consciousnes, more awake when out of body etc etc.
For now though proper practise is key... When you begin to think "I cannot do this because my chakra is not developed enough" etc etc, you are already failing and are misstaken. What is truly needed is practise, proper and full practise, not half-heartedly "when there is will there is a way".
I don't think you need to separate real-time projection with other forms of projection. Since being out of body is being out of body, only difference is dimensional location (and the amount of consciousnes you have in certain experiences).
