Hi everyone!

In 'A Course in Astral Travel & Dreams' it talks about different symbols in dreams and what they mean. My understanding is that these symbols are given by Masters for us to learn from. My question is, can these same symbols be presented to us in the waking/physical reality for similar teaching purposes?

Here's something that happened to me today. I parked my car in front of a shopping center, went across the road to look at some other shops, and on my way back to the original center, I re-checked that my car had locked properly by pulling on the door. When I got inside the shopping center, three policemen approached me and said a witness had reported someone matching my description going through the car park trying to open cars. They then interrogated me for about 15 minutes before they bought my explanation and let me go. Even stranger was that when I was showing them which car I had the key to, the lead officer spouted out the Latin version of "seize the day, embrace the moment". I have no idea why he would say that. Being apprehended by cops was certainly strange enough, but when one of them quoted Latin for no reason, it made me wonder whether this might be a symbolic event. Could I perhaps have been given a warning of karma to pay (in the form of policemen) or am I reading too much into the situation? Can symbolic teachings really be given in the physical plane?

That's some story, did you ask the cop why he said that?
I think we can recieve symbols in our daily lives, mostly in the form of some type of synchronicity - as has been my experience.

Hi bleu orb,

Funny story! I love when unusual thing coming up.

When a student is doing the inner work, teachings are given in every moment. In the astral they are more obvious but still hard to comprehend. In the physical they are less obvious when we day dreaming, but when the awareness is maintained, teachings are found on evey step.

Whether you are warned or not, you always have your karma to pay, but meditating on such unexpected situations is always beneficial; looking at how you have reacted towards it, what egos were sneaching around at those moments.

We are often putted to all kind of tests to learn, and in the begining we are learning to be aware in the physical, slowly gaining expeirences and learning to do it on the higher planes. So there is no doubt that symbolic teachings are given in the physical sometimes even more then in the astral or perhaps it depends on each student individualy.

Kind regards.

Hi blue orb,

Excellent question... and one I sometimes wonder about myself.

For sure numbers (as explained in the astral book) can play a symbolic role in the physical similar to how they play a role in the astral. Quite a few of my friends have had some bad experiences in the physical with the number 18, "Hidden Enemies", for example. I've also had a couple - meetings going very poorly, etc.

I've also had some experiences in the physical where I saw something that I'd ordinarily interpret symbolically in the astral. It was food for thought, I guess, and it gave me a chance to do a reality check just in case I was in the astral :) But I have no definite conclusions on that – just that we should, I guess, always be open to such a possibility. Master Rabolu said there is a teaching in everything.

And it's always a good idea, like Gyrorgi said, if we can, to meditate upon the events of the day and see our various internal reactions. Symbolism or not, there is much to learn about ourselves.

Very neat story, by the way. That ordeal sounds chock-full of learning.

All the best!

Mike

Thanks for your messages, guys. From now on I'll keep in mind that there's a teaching in everything, not just 'symbolic' ones.

On reflection, I realized that the action which caused the whole kafuffle (me checking if the car was locked), stemmed from a fear of attack on my property and maybe also fear of attack in general. The coppers really scared me, and so perhaps it was a case of fear creating a fearful situation. I'll have to meditate on it a bit more.

All the best to you as well.

I had an experience which is not at all spiritual, but still leaves me scratching my head.
I worked in an office, which I shared with another person. He had been out of the office all day. For no apparent reason I left the office and made my way to reception, he was entering reception from outside. We met each other
in the middle of reception. And for no reason at all we both said
at exactly the same time "Bo Didly"
Then we stared at each other in disbelief!

Neither of us had a clue why we said it.

Be careful not to overanalyze events; you have to approach them from a different kind of thinking to get at their true meaning.

I have been thinking lately (speaking of synchronicity), that symbols, so to speak, are entirely belonging to the person who sees them. So, for example, any symbol I see or understand is a symbol, is a part of my mind (using the word in the most expansive of senses). If this is the case, which I currently find it to be, then symbols, and their understanding, are both kinds of thinking (for lack of a better word). In that you can think in both the dreaming and waking worlds, symbols can appear in both sleeping and waking worlds. Because we operate at a more subconscious level in dreams (which is where such thinking processes reside), it's easier for symbols to manifest in dreams.

It is said that there is wisdom in every moment...

Only need the intuition to understand it.

If there is a day you don't know what to do, just look around, don't think, and symbols can guide you...

Although you might not like it in the beginning (mind).

Hi Blue Orb,

It's said that the Masters can control the events that happen in the physical, just like they can put things in our dreams for us to learn, and from some experiences I've had I'm sure we can have symbols given to us while we're awake!

When I was still just friends with my wife, and was praying for help to know whether or not we should start a relationship, we started seeing strange things in our day. My wife is Indian and she has quite a unique name that I never thought I'd see here in Australia. But then one day I drove past a street sign with her name on it, another day I drove out of my driveway and at the end of the street was parked a truck with her name on it, and the company specialised in something she had been interested in for a long time. I also saw the same truck shortly later away from my home. In India (where David is a very uncommon name) similar things started happening to her! There were other similar things that happened too in the physical and in dreams, which helped us and guided us to do or not do things at certain times.

At other times for instance when I was focusing on waking up in dreams, I was on a tram and was drawn to look up, and above me was a big sign saying 'pull your finger' (which is a technique taught here for waking up in dreams).

So I think it's definitely possible to have symbolic events in the physical as well as in dreams.

That said, I think these symbols and the ones we get shown in dreams or the astral are real, not just figments of our imagination, or ways of thinking, or things I've seen because I was looking for them, because of how they relate so strongly to reality. Lots of times I've been left without any doubt about how much we're helped!

Hi Blue Orb,

I also had some experiences of receiving "signs" in the physical world and they were so helpful!
It's really awesome how much we can be helped and guided by the Divine Beings, Masters! How much do we take out of their help?

Although, another side of "signs" is telepathy of subconscious elements.
It affected me so badly before, I think, this is something which misleads many people looking and waiting for signs.

As I understand it, what happens is, egos of different people influence them to pay attention on a specific things in a specific moments, draw people to each other, create a strange coincidences, etc.
"show me that she loves me -and you see it, show me that this will work for me and you see it", etc.
It can be very misleading.
If 97% of subconsious is added up to synchronicity and law of attraction, (everything is interrelated and similar things attract similar things), this equation can produce some very confusing results.
I am just learning to understand how it all workes.

Another point can be that signs are like photographs, reflecting situations in a one "frozen" moment of time, but time keeps flowing and things can change very fast.
Gnosis teaches that it all depends from our work on ourselves and nothing valuable is really given for granted.

For me it was never easy to distinguish between "real signs" and egos tricks because it requires a certan strength not to "see what you want to see", but only what is shown to you. What you need to see.
