Hi everyone I have been trying to project now for the whole week doing my con/vis, exercises , and it has been really hard to fall asleep doing the exercises , I really do think that I have a good exercise going but sleep seems to nerve come I talking about 2-3 hours of the above . My question is where may I be going wrong ? Thoughts sometimes do come to mind , but I really think my focus is good on the heart and picturing the heart ,but as i said sleep nerve comes. Does anyone seem to have the same problem? Moreover, I thought that i did get out of my body last night , but it could have been a dream - this was after I changed my sleeping position..Any comment will be helpful.. Love and Peace ... |

Hi Tony,
It's funny since I have exactly the opposite problem - I fall asleep immediatly in the begining of the practice, only in my case I know that I' am not motivated enough first of all, and secondly my concentration is weak.
You probably already heard of it, but there are 4 major factors for a succesive astral projection:
1. motivation or will to do it
2. deep relaxation to the point of loosing the sensetion of physical body
3. good concentration one one thing only
4. sleepiness it self.
So if you have a problem with sleepiness or any other factor, you should investigate the cause and try a different approach. One of the teachers in our center, who is vey dedactive and scintific in his approaches, told me that I have to learn how to bring the sleepiness to me.
He used the next anology: Sleepiness is like a bird. You throw her a piece of bread and she eats it - this is how a regular sleep comes, our thoughts are thrown into the astral and sleepiness has already eaten us.
But you want to astral project, so you need to figure out how to hold this piece of bread in your hand to making the bird come to you and let her eat from your hand. At the moment when she will start punching her head to bite the bread, you will be aware and feel it, then you will project.
He told me that I must be very gentle for this bird to come to eat from my hand. I still haven't learned how, but I share it with you to give you food for thoughts.

Hi Tony,
Keep going with your concentration and visualization exercises because when you build up on these the chances for projection will increase with the day.
I nowadays fall asleep too soon and the cause for this is both exhaustion and lack of concentration.
Usually the problem with not being able too sleep, is an overactive mind and this too can be tackled with training your concentration.
What can help, is to cease intellectual activities at least an hour before going to bed. Try to listen to some relaxing music for example and just concentrate on the music.
Also when you lie down on your bed, it is important to relax all the muscles in the body. Try to spend at least 5 (perhaps 10) minutes to visualize the muscles in your body and relax them one by one. Begin with the feet and work your way up to the head. Any form of tension can be an obstacle.
Strenght with the practices.

I think by reading the 2 responses I didn't see this mentioned that if you are concentrating too much you won't fall asleep either.
Goodluck!!! :D

Hey Tony,
I have noticed myself that if I am concentrating strongly then tension can easily creep into the physical body effectively gluing me to it.
It might help when doing visulisation exercises to try to concentrate hard while keeping the body relaxed and absent of tension.
Take care and all the best with those practices.

in one of my astral experiences, i had reached the vibrational state. my problem at that time was figuring out how to make an exit. So what i did was ask for help. Soon i heard a voice say to me that i was making it more difficult than it actually was. He told me to "Look at the clouds in the distance". all i saw was blackness, but soon i started to notice clouds. a little bit later, i was out of my body standing next to 2 beings (1 male 1 female).
This one experience has made me realize that leaving the body is much easier than what we make it. It sounds that your problem is due to keeping consciousness of your body. instead you should be focusing on someplace you are very familiar with. Soon this visualization will become more real and life like and eventually you will be able to interact with it. When this happens, you know that you have exited.
also, what i find that works for me is to try to project after 3-4 hours of sleep. i usually set an alarm. when you wake up after sleeping, you are already relaxed and slightly in a trance. you are already in a good state of mind/relaxation for projection. it sounds like you are practicing concentration exercises before sleep. try them in the morning after a few hours of sleep.
best of luck,
