Scott Billings

Scott’s Biography

Scott has always had a restless spirit. At 18 he left his native Australia to explore the unknown. Travelling throughout Asia, he eventually settled to live and work in Japan, seeking a better understanding of eastern traditions. At 21 he took up the study of acupuncture and became determined to master this complex science. Continuing to travel and study, he met numerous spiritual teachers and experimented with a range of spiritual disciplines, including different martial arts and various forms of meditation. His explorations of eastern medicine led him towards Buddhism and Daoism, and these in turn sparked an interest in Gnosis – all part of his search for a practical science of spirituality.

Scott discovered the Gnosticweb courses in 2000, and his previous explorations into spirituality helped him recognize quickly the value of what he had found. Turning theory into practice has been a patient work of years for him, but his efforts have resulted in a deep foundation of experience and knowledge.

Today, Scott coordinates the Melbourne Gnostic Center and administers the entire online course system for the Gnosticweb website, all while running his own acupuncture clinic and serving as the Academic Dean of the Acupuncture Association. Those who have learned from Scott or enjoyed his good company are quick to remark on his amazing sense of purpose: a discipline and dedication that he sustains through the most challenging of circumstances. His lectures and practices are inspiring in their simplicity, allowing him to offer his fresh, practical, and witty insights with the force and conviction that comes from experience.

Scott’s inner strength and rock-solid persistence have allowed him to become a key figure in the operation of Gnosticweb’s courses and websites. However, what those who know him find most amazing is his ability to balance his many responsibilities with his dedication to his spiritual practices. Whether he’s guiding the web-team through a new technical challenge, lending an open ear to the troubles of a friend, inspiring a packed lecture room with a clear-headed explanation, or simply enjoying a good toss of a Frisbee – Scott is truly a man for all seasons.

Some words from Scott

I came to the courses in late 2000 after searching through various spiritual groups, traditions, and meditation schools. I was fortunate to have glimpsed various aspects of life through study, work overseas, and travel throughout the world, which led me to really begin to question, what the significance of life was and how to best live it – what would bring lasting peace? Gnosis brought everything I had studied together, filled in the gaps and answered many of the questions I had. It has showed me the depth and significance of life and how true spirituality can be lived with integrity and truth for the benefit of oneself and others.

Despite this recognition of the worth of Gnosis, it has taken many years to really gain an understanding of how to begin to transform and change what exists within me; to move from theory to practice.

Upon becoming a teacher and continuing to investigate and experience the various aspects of Gnosis and to see the transformative power these teachings have, my life has taken on a real sense of purpose and focus, and to be able to assist other people is similarly very inspiring.

To feel the change within myself, the change in many relationships, particularly with my wife, family etc., to have been able to experience what was for many years simply ideas or hearsay of other dimensions, mystical states, and other states of being – all this has proven to me the truth of Gnosis.
