Patricia Atkinson

Patricia’s Biography

Patricia Atkinson’s search for self-discovery has taken her around the world – from the east coast of Australia to the west coast of the United States, where she help found the first American Study Centre. However, despite the journey she has embarked upon, she was for much of her life unconvinced about the reality of a spiritual world.

This attitude changed through powerful life experiences. Intrigued by a few popular spiritual books she’d read, she became increasingly interested in the practical aspect of spirituality and was willing to learn more. Not looking for anything specific, she attended a course in esoteric studies at the request of a friend, and it opened her eyes to mystical experiences. “Even though I wasn’t actively looking for them,” she says, “a part inside of me was.” Patricia had her first out-of-body experience a couple of months into the course, and as she firmly puts it, “there was no looking back after that.”

Three years later, in the year 2000, she became a teacher of Gnosis. In 2005, having already taught in Sydney and founded a centre in Melbourne, Patricia and her husband moved to California to establish a Study Centre in Berkeley. As a teacher, Patricia is known for her ability to give a unique and inspiring flavor to her lectures – a special blend of strength and personal experience that captivates any audience. Her warmth and passion have touched many students, and the depth of her commitment to an inner-search is a constant source of inspiration.

Aside from her teaching at the centre, Patricia has made numerous other contributions to Gnosticweb. She has successfully coordinated the American retreats since their inception in 2005. Her involvement in Gnosticweb’s online activities – such as graphics design, translation, online teaching, advertising, and the administration and coordination of web pages – has also been central: there are few areas of the organization that have not been guided by Patricia’s capable hand. Her education in Economics and Business Administration and extensive professional experience in marketing and market research has given her valuable expertise, which she uses as the regional marketing coordinator for the organization and as a media liaison for Mark Pritchard in the US, the founder and author of Gnosticweb’s courses.

Some words from Pati

I started to study gnosis in 1997 in Sydney, Australia. Coming from a competitive sports background, I was attracted first of all by the practical approach of the courses. I wasn’t actively looking for these type of studies, but mysterious life coincidences lead me to what will later on change my perception of life.

My background has always been scientific and always kept a skeptical attitude towards the spiritual. One of the first things I learnt was the potential that everyone has to have mystical experiences like meditation and to experience states of bliss, so I decided to take a trip into the previously unknown world for me and experience what they were talking about.

I had my first out-of-body experience soon after I was given the techniques. Before then, I didn’t even used to remember dreams, so this and the following experiences that I had, put life into perspective for me and I was able to prove very tangibly that we exist beyond our bodies and that there is another dimension of life that is very real and natural.

The teachings and practices for self-discovery also helped me to understand life at a much deeper level and to gain more experience and knowledge about what is within, which made me realize our enormous capacity for inner change.

I have been actively teaching these courses since 2000. Seeing the rapid growth of online students in America, Brett and I moved to California in 2002 to start a study center. Passing this information freely to others has been very strengthening and it is very inspiring to see people’s successes and progress.
