Breaking Ground...First Lecture in Vancouver

The entrance to the hall

We had our first public event this weekend in Vancouver – an introductory lecture on Dreams and Out-of-Body Experiences.

We’ll be running an 8-week course on this topic in January, but in the meantime – as you may have read in Jasmin’s blog – we wanted to hold an event to provide an introduction to the subject and to generate interest for the upcoming course (and to give us all a much-needed boost).

It was inspiring to be a part of an event in a new city, a place where we’d never run any courses before. There was a lot to learn about the new place, but the whole team handled it really well – especially Jasmin and Mike who deserve a big acknowledgement for their efforts and dedication.

The results were very encouraging: at first there was only a trickle of registrations, but soon the responses really started to pour in, until about a week before the date we realized we needed to rent more chairs to accommodate everyone.

All in all, about 60 people reserved a space, of which 50 actually made an appearance. We were especially lucky that Alex, an online student from the Canadian city of Edmonton, flew down just for the event and helped a lot with setting things up. Thanks Alex!

A lot of nice, interesting people turned out; many had experienced astral travel before, and everyone seemed motivated to learn more about it. After a few months’ hiatus in running courses, it was refreshing to spend time with such a large group of people interested in spirituality and exploring other dimensions.

About 30 of them also pre-registered for the course beginning in January, which is an excellent start to what we hope will be an exciting and productive 8 weeks.

At the end of the day, I think we all felt that the efforts involved in making the event come together were well-worthwhile. The enjoyment of starting from scratch and making things materialize is very rewarding; a sense of spiritual momentum develops as well, and I hope it will allow us all to experience some magical things.

And of course, the night would not have been complete had we not transplanted an old Toronto tradition and rewarded ourselves with some savoury Indian cuisine afterwards.

For our friends in the online community who couldn’t be there, you can feast your eyes on these pictures, courtesy of Jasmin :-)

Are you in the astral? This funny image was part of a series of slides illustrating the difference between dreaming and having a conscious astral experience. The two fellows are supposed to be twin brothers, in case you're wondering.

Alex, Mike, and I -- about to enjoy our meal. Jasmin is behind the lens.

...it was delicious.

For anyone who lives in the area, there are still spaces available in our upcoming course. We have a terrific venue, and there should be lots of interested people. Hope you can make it!

Library Square Conference Centre. It looks suspiciously like the Colosseum in Rome, doesn't it? Apparently just a coincidence.

Inside the building. Just go down those stairs.

Congratulations Justin,

Congratulations Justin, Jasmin and Mike (and Alex) for your wonderful efforts and the wonderful afternoon tea display, only wish I was there too.

All the best and looking forward to hearing more from you.

I was looking forward to this blog :) Thanks for all the pictures.
Great to hear from you. Very exciting news, well done to everyone!

The place you have for the new round looks really amazing. I would definitely be doing some reality checks if I was there – especially if I was there.

Take care everyone!

Well done Justin and co., by

Well done Justin and co., by the looks of it, you're off to a great start!

Nice 'donations box' btw Justin. We may have used a candy jar as a donations box together here in the past, but that one definitely takes the cake for most innovative 'mixed use' :-)

I think the old bird feeder

I think the old bird feeder gets a few points too :)

That is great to see you are getting things going in Vancouver already Justin! I like both of the halls you have chosen.

However... it is unfortunate to see that Jasmin was the only one of you with enough sense to order a mango lassie.
