Don't force anything. The goal is to stay completely relaxed and focused, and try not to be too concerned with what you're feeling. You want to let your physical body fall asleep, and sleep isn't really something you can force, you just have to relax your body and let it happen, and keep your mind focused on something else so you don't lose consciousness like we usually do when we sleep.

You've done well to get this far. I know that if you get emotional in any way when the vibrations start, e.g. thinking wow it's starting, it will cause the vibrations to stop. I know you need to stay relaxed/focused, then try one of various exit techniques. One of the easiest is the rope techique, for detailed information on exit strategies, see http://www.astraldynamics.com and the information is extensive. Goto "Tutorials", "Training", "Astral Projection", then "Part 5" describes the rope technique in great detail. It's also important to note that without any chakra stimulation work etc, projections are likely to be harder to induce, shorter, less controlled and less well remembered. The tutorial on this site includes chakra stimulation excercises as part of the training recommended for inducing astral projection.

PJ, I"m kinda in the same place. I get the vibrations. Not by force, as they come on their own. But then I think, oh, this is it. Sometimes I feel like my fingers are lifting, or my hands are moving when they are not. I get excited, then everything stops.

I also do the chakra and energy rising when first lying down. Once the vibrations start, I have tried affirmations, I've tried mantras, and I've tried visualizations, such as the rope method or imagining myself lifting.

The buzz dies away, and I get bored and fall asleep.

Ideas?

The happens to me a lot too! I started doing some research and read something that I think fits my experience perfectly from Robert Bruce. He explained that if you're in that vibrational state for a long period of time it can mean that you have projected but your conscious memory is bouncing between your light body and your physical body. In my case, I'm realizing it's the fear that's preventing me from becoming fully conscious of my light body. I can't just say "Oh, it's natural and I'm not afraid now because someone explained to me how wonderful it is." To fix the problem I need to address my fears with a rational mind... The results have been great.

Good luck!

When you experience the vibrations the best thing to do is to ignore them as much as possible. What tends to happen is that we start paying attention to them instead of focusing on a specific technique and any small interference can sometimes bring the whole exercise to an end (excitement, fear, etc). It's difficult but if you can do that then you'll get much closer to your goal.

So, Leeny, since dealing with your fears, have you successfully had conscious OBEs that you remember. I've wondered if I've been having trouble with the mind split, or not successfully fully transferring my consciousness.

I'm sure I must have some apprehensions and fears, though I mostly feel eager. I'm getting a bit frustrated.

I guess finding the right technique is tricky too. I've tried focusing on the rope technique through the vibrations, and I've tried mantras, and I've tried thinking about my living room, hoping I'd just pop out there. I do tend to get excited by the vibrations though, thinking this is it! Then blah, they fizzle out and I feel like I'm back to square 1 or I fall asleep.

I've also been writing out the affirmation every night before lying down, "Tonight I will astral project with awareness." or some version of that. I write it out about 10 times. Hopefully one of these days or nights!!!!

"Back to square 1" tends to happen a lot :) If you happen to be switching back and forth between techniques (not saying you are) then that can weaken your ability to learn about just one specific technique. If that's the case it should help if you spend about a week or two on just one to learn more about it (like a mantra) and develop consistency. It's great that you're determined!

Ultimately the one element in all techniques is your concentration which can be developed. If that is very sharp and strong you actually attract sleep and that's what you need to be able separate yourself from the physical body.

Keep going!

this is sort of a late response, but here goes anyways:

i used to ask myself the same question and it sounds impressive that you can force vibrations at will. If I may ask, what is it that you do to force vibrations at will? I've always wanted to figure this out but have no answer yet.

But anyways to answer your question, I find that it is best to visualize something: a place, a situation, etc. As long as you can picture it clear in your mind. Keep focused on this and soon you will find yourself there. By just visualizing something, I have witnessed a thought evolve into a 3D world that i was able to interact with. This is kinda hard to explain, but it works. It has worked everytime I have used it. Hope this helps.

Hi Dreamwa1ker,

I don't know if I'm bringing on the vibrations at will, or if I am just managing to go into that state repeatedly and fairly quickly. All my life I have awoken to, or felt those vibrations frequently as I fall asleep. So, when I read about them being a part of astral travel, I was excited as that part was familiar to me.

That said, what I am finding very helpful, and I think is just good for our energy body anyway, are Robert Bruce's energy raising exercises and stimulation of the chakras. Whenever I do those upon lying down, I do get the vibration sensations within about 20 minutes of having done the energy raising. So, one of my concerns is that these vibrations I'm feeling are simply the excited state of my chakras being felt rather than a symptom of oncoming astral projection.

I do feel like these exercises are helping my energy bodies, opening blockages, and keeping the chakras in good health. When I do the energy exercises, I do sense blockages that I am working on. It's also a really good exercise for practicing concentration.

I also recently read about visualizing a place, as you suggest, so I will start trying that. On rereading Bruce's Astral Dynamics, I realized he also suggested this method, and it just didn't penetrate my memory on the first reading of the book.

I'll let you know how this works out for me. I'm thinking too that I need to practice this more in the morning or day time, as I think I'm experiencing some fear of projecting into the dark of night. The light of day is more comforting, so maybe I'll experience success then when I feel more secure. I'm prone to nap daily anyway:-) Lucky for me I work remotely from home.
