A Surprising Hunch

Recently, at my job, I was helping move the office to a new location.

After we loaded up my boss’s car, she informed me that I would be driving it to the new office, while she would be driving a truck which she had borrowed to help with the move. The truck was already packed and waiting at her house. She didn't say where she got the truck from, only, "I've got this truck..."

We stopped at her house to get the truck and also to get her young daughter, who would be riding along in the truck. As my boss installed a car seat and strapped her daughter in, I stood patiently waiting, enjoying the spring weather which has just begun to emerge where I live.

As I stood there, my attention turned to the truck. When I looked at it, I was suddenly struck with a strong and certain feeling: "This is John's truck."

I must step back a moment and explain... John is a relative of my boss, who has been visiting from another state for a little while, staying somewhere in town. Though I have met him on a couple of occasions, I don’t know him very well at all – I certainly had never had any reason to think about what kind of car he drove, or in fact to think about him much at all.

However, for no particular reason, I suddenly felt this very strong perception that this was John’s vehicle in front of me. This was such a strong feeling that I thought of asking my boss if it was his truck, in order to verify the feeling I had. However, I thought it might seem a bit odd to her, so I didn’t ask.

It struck me to look at the license plate to see if it was from out of state. I stepped around to the rear to look, while my boss continued to absorb herself in completing her task. Sure enough, the plates were from the state that John was from! This confirmed the strong hunch I had felt.

I feel that this intuitive feeling was clear to me due to the natural awareness I had active in that moment as I stood waiting patiently. It is funny how and when intuition comes...

If I keep paying attention to these hunches, then perhaps one day, I will be able to use my intuition for something useful!
