The New Toronto Centre Location - Round 5
Here is the weekly Toronto Centre renovations update:
We are approaching the end of the saga here in the main room now and things are really starting to come together. This week the trim has been completed, the touch-ups on the walls and ceilings are nearing completion, the washrooms are nearing completion, the remaining electrical issues with the lights have been remedied, the carpet at the back of the main room has been ripped up, and the ground underneath it has been prepared in order to lay down the new floors.
Below are some pictures of the group in action,
Jordan

Jenny works on the trim as Ruben replaces one of the ceiling light covers

Olga with the mini-roller gives part of the trim a first coat

Jenny and Silvia painting the trim. Note that the carpet was still on at this point

Adam and Jenny working on the trim - in case you haven't noticed, this place has a lot of trim!

Ruben arrives with some fuel for the workers on Sunday...

Olga does some touch-ups on the ceiling while Jenny and I work on touching up the mirrors. All those little spots (painters tape) on the walls are reminders of places where more touch-ups are needed. The door inbetween Olga and I leads to a very small 'staff washroom' (which we probably won't be using) and some storage space, while the door on the right leads to the men's washroom. The door on the very far left leads to an electrical room.

On your left is the registration counter. Behind that is a kitchenette, which you cannot see. This picture has been taken from the cafe area, which will be separated from the room in front by another half-counter and some plants (about where all those newspapers are at the very bottom-right of the picture). Those two doors to the right of Olga (on the ladder) lead to the men's and women's washrooms. The door at the end of the room leads to a hallway, and to the right and left of the hallway are some senior practice rooms - one for all the practices in general, and another which will be specifically set up as a 'Meditation room'. Above the stage at the back on the right will be a roll-down projector screen attached to the ceiling at the very back, with some whiteboards behind it up on the wall. On the left at the back (behind the washrooms) is some extra space where we'll have some cushions, extra seats, and a bookshelf with plenty of reading material.
As you can see, the carpet at the back (with the exception of the stage so far) has been removed and the floor has been levelled off with cement by Stas (conveniently in the flooring business professionally), so it is ready for the new planks. By next blog, the drop sheet at the front will have been removed so you will be able to see the old floor at the front again, and hopefully, the new floor at the back too!

View from the front as of Monday.

Thanks a lot for the update
Thanks a lot for the update Jordan. It's looking very good and having a seperate 'Meditation Room' will be great. I don't think we've ever had such at Bondi. Those mirrors must have been quite a fiddly task.
With your whiteboard and projector - will you be able to attach the projector to the ceiling?
All the best,
Shane
Hi to all the hard working

I think its a fantastic idea re: the Meditation Room. May it bring you all some enlightenment!
All the Best with it all
Laraine :-))
We look forward to seeing
We look forward to seeing the finished product and the place filled with students!
All the best Toronto crew!
Thanks for that David, us
Thanks for that David, us too!
Shane, yes, I would say that the mirrors even surpassed that of creating blogs on the 'fiddly meter' :-)
The whiteboards will be on the back wall on the right (above the stage), and the screen for the projector will be attached to the ceiling such that it can drop down just in front of them. As for the projector, that will be attached to the ceiling further back, I'd guess somewhere around where the ceiling takes a right turn in the middle of the room, just behind and to the right of where the fan is in that last picture.
Laraine, yes, the Starbucks in the area must really like the new Toronto Centre!
