Are you speaking about the silver cord that connects the astral and physical bodies? If so there's not too much to worry about because it could be a projection from his subconscious, if not, something symbolic. Unless we die physically, that cord will always bring us back to the physical dimension.

Just further to what Gerry said, as I understand it from the information in the courses there's no way other than dying physically that the cord can be cut or break.

Yet another reason not to run with astral scissors.

Student: "...Mr. Death, I accidentally cut my cord again..." (looks down at feet)

Mr. Death: "Why you little #@$*!!!" (strangles student)

[choke, cough, gasp]

Student: "Hey, wait a minute... you can't strangle me, I'm dead!"
