They are eventually touching common esoteric aspects, but theosophy seems to be more theoretical while gnosis is more practical.
Actually I do not know much about theosophy.

There are many errors in these schools, but Samael recommends reading Blavatsky a few times. Also in his early works resorted back to it – quite often. Endocrinology & Criminology he states, “In order to develop positive clairvoyance, it is required to practice the necessary esoteric exercises and to study the best authors of Theosophy, Rosicrucianism, Yoga, Psychology.” I would focus on reading the books on http://www.gnosticweb.com/node/7089, incase of errors in his early works.

I have a few books on Theosophy and other books that Rudolf Steiner had written and I can make a few comments on them for you. When I read "Intuitive thinking as a spiritual path" it was very inspiring since im in the army and have limited rescources and time to practice and study Gnosis. It talks about why the conscientiousness is set at such a high standard on the Esoteric path and also in knowledge. I dont want to go to much into detail on this book but I will say that Theosophy is a broad subject. Its more or less kind of a science in that its a study on how you can connect real life to spirituality. Questions like, how is spirituality tied into real life, why is the conscientiousness so important and how is it tied into the spiritual path. You can pull alot of knowledge from these books, like Sameaul said, its nescessary to read these books to achieve true clairvoyance, and I agree with this statement 100%! After reading most of the books from Rudolf Steiner and books like "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" has almost filled me out spiritualy, my spirituality is alot more sound then it was. After reading these books and then delving myself into the Pistis Sophia has become a must. Anyways I hope this helps, regards.
