Peace and Happiness by John
I have some beautiful memories of my childhood growing up in Southern France, yet deep within me I always felt an extreme sadness. In private moments I would look up at the stars and ask for help for us all, including the fallen angel I had learned about in Sunday School.
At the age of 11 years old I moved to Australia and grew up in a very tough
surf culture environment. My innocence was lost and I had to adapt very
quickly. At the beach and at school you had to be a good surfer, fighter or
womaniser to fit in or you were picked on by the mass. I managed to experience
both sides and began to understand why there is so much sadness and misery in
all of us. As I got older sadness was replaced by moments of pleasure. A nice
car, a new house, money, drugs, alcohol but never finding true happiness or
peace within. Every relationship was great to start with until I started
pointing the finger finding so many faults with my partner. This would continue
with my family, friends and even with people I didn't know. As I began to
change within I reflected on the famous quote from Jesus "He who is
without sin throw the first stone" and realised that I had been reflecting
on the very problems that were hidden within me.
As humanity we waste so much time arguing and fighting over the most petty
things. We only have to look around the world we live in to see the wars still
taking place because of greed, even at the cost of human life. Poverty could
end tomorrow if greed within humanity ceased. This again brings me back to my
Sunday School days and the beautiful story about a peasant boy who was given a
donkey yet without a thought gave it to his friend knowing that he may never be
given anything of such value again. We should all reflect on the heart of this
child.
For centuries we have killed each other in the name of god (the Holy Wars).
This war is within us, the fight between good and evil. If you suppress the
darkness it will never leave, keeping us in chains till the end.
Deep within the heart of all men and women is the capacity to remove this
darkness and replace it with the light. True peace and happiness can be
achieved by changing ourselves, not by trying to change others. There is an
urgency not only for us all but for the sake of our children. We must be an example
or the history of humanity will keep repeating our mistakes.
Many divine messengers have come to show us the way, Jesus (holyland), Krishna
(India), Hermes (Egypt), Quetzalcoatl (Mexico), Joan of Arc (France), Buddha
(Orient) and many before and so few after them.
Black, white, yellow, red we are all one family. One brotherhood. Love is the
highest religion. The secrets of life are hidden from those who ridicule and
condemn what they do not know. Yet available to all of us who want to change.
Only then will there be true peace on earth.
