Melbourne Gnostic Center

The Melbourne Gnostic Center provides a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of busy Fitzroy, offering public classes on a wide range of spiritual topics. It is an environment dedicated to inner growth – a place to find peace, gain strength and rediscover what’s truly important in life. Inside, relaxing music and spiritual art create an atmosphere of inspiration, ideal for exploring spiritual exercises, sharing a quiet conversation, or enjoying cup of tea. The center is entirely funded by voluntary donations, and all classes are free of charge.

Attendees are of all ages and come from all walks of life; the common thing amongst them is a true yearning for personal change and spiritual growth. As well as lectures and practices, frequent social events offer everyone a chance to enjoy each other’s company and share a delicious meal.

Background

A Gnostic Group has existed in Melbourne since 2000. Originally located in the eastern suburbs, classes have been run from halls, community centers, commercial office spaces, and residential houses. After spending some time operating from a community center in Prahran (which still holds the larger introductory lectures) it was decided in 2005 that the time had come to move into a dedicated property. A long search commenced for a venue that seemed right: a space that was versatile, flexible, and with the potential to grow into a haven for all spiritual seekers. With the venue found, work parties followed, painting and preparing the center for its first class at the beginning of 2006.

Practices

Each practice is explained and guided by trained instructors, ensuring each aspect is thoroughly understood. Time is set aside after practices for short discussions and the sharing of experiences. Classes involving lectures, discussions, and various practices are held on most days of the week. The full range of courses offered by The Gnostic Movement is available through the center, and qualified instructors are always on hand for further explanation and support.

Spiritual retreats, held at various times throughout the year, provide a dedicated environment to investigate the Gnostic teachings, with a focus on applying the teachings to gain true knowledge and wisdom.

The emphasis of each practice is on getting the basics right, providing the groundwork that is required for true mystical experiences and revolutionary personal transformation.

The Future

The Melbourne Gnostic Center aims to maintain a productive state of positive change and evolution. Practices and courses are constantly being refined and everyone is encouraged and supported to consistently develop in understanding and practice. The Melbourne Gnostic Center continues to expand, welcoming new friends and developing a strong spiritual energy. The future will see many more spiritual experiences, friendships, courses, lectures, workshops, and retreats.
