How to Use the Gnosticweb Live Video Chat
New and Improved: Introducing Gnosticweb Video Chat!
Gnosticweb Video Chat connects you with a worldwide spiritual community.
Now, anyone with an Internet connection can experience live, real-time spiritual teachings right in their home. Participate in video Gnosticweb Live Workshop sessions as part of our free online courses.
The new system is both simple and powerful. You'll see the host live on your computer screen, and hear them through your headphones or speakers.
But the communication also goes both ways: if you have a headset and webcam, you can ask your questions live on the air and get immediate feedback, comments, and answers. The host will guide a group workshop where you can explore spirituality in depth - share your insights and experiences, discuss how you went with your practices, get feedback and tips, and explore the weekly topic as group. Its all about sharing your experience of the teachings and getting personal feedback.
No matter where you are in the world, you can be a part of it. So log in -- and start seeing and hearing spiritual teachings like never before.
Not sure how to use the system? It's easy! For detailed instructions on how to attend a live web event, see below.
Setting Up
You will need some equipment to participate fully in the chat rooms.
Equipment Checklist
- webcam
- headset with microphone
Note: the webcam and microphone aren't needed just to listen, but you'll want them in order to ask questions or share comments. We ask that you use a headset with microphone rather than a standalone mic with computer speakers, to help reduce echo and feedback.
You need to make sure you have the driver for your webcam installed for it to work properly. You also need to have adobe flash player installed to use the video chat, which you can download here. You simply login to the room by using your Gnosticweb user account. If you don't yet have an account with the site, click here to create one.
Internet Connection
The video seen in the chat room is sent live over the web from the camera to your screen.
The quality of the video that you see depends upon the type of Internet connection you have.
For Dial-Up Users
Dial up Internet connections bring much less information to your computer than broadband. This means the video quality can not be seen at its best and may even have to be disabled in order for you to hear the talk.
To disable the video, but to keep hearing the talk, click on the "dial-up" button located to the right of the video screen.
Broadband Users
You will be able to receive much better video quality with broadband over dial-up. However the video quality you can comfortably watch depends upon your Internet connection speed.
To adjust the quality of the video you see, click the "options" button located at the bottom right of the chat window.

Troubleshooting Section
Don't worry...just read this if you're having some trouble.
1) Problem: the screen is blank. Solution: install latest version of flash.
2) Problem: the webcam is not showing or your browser is crashing. Solution: reinstall the drivers for your webcam.
3) Problem: lots of echo or feedback during your call. Solution: It is very important to use a headset, if you have one, instead of speakers. If you don't have a headset, try placing your microphone behind your speakers and lowering the volume.
Asking Questions
If you want to ask a question during the talk, then follow these instructions.
1) If you have a question or comment, press the 'raise/lower hand' button to raise your hand. This will let the moderator know that you'd like to speak. If you change your mind, press the button again to lower your hand.
2) At an appropriate time, the host will let you know that you can speak. At that point your microphone and webcam (if you have one) will become active, and you'll be able to ask your question on the air.
3) When you're finished talking, your microphone/webcam will become inactive again.
The End.
Happy conferencing :-)
